Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants "three or four" signings in the summer transfer window.

Mourinho, 54, won the EFL Cup against Southampton Sunday, his first major trophy as United manager. The club remains in contention for a treble this season, having progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.

Despite those achievements, and possible qualification for the Champions League next season, Mourinho says he wants to add to his squad in the summer.

"I think we will be ready in July to open the door for two or three good players to help us to improve our level," Mourinho said in quotes reported by The Independent.

"You reach a certain level of stability, you find your way to play, your philosophy and this is very important. We are stable in the way the team plays and we need one more push."

United plays Bournemouth Saturday at Old Trafford in the lunchtime kickoff, as it resumes its English Premier League campaign.
