Lara Trump on Donald Trump's Upcoming CPAC Appearance: 'He Is the Head of the Republican Party'

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law and former senior advisor to Donald Trump, called the former president the "head of the Republican Party" while discussing his upcoming appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

During a Saturday night appearance on Fox News's Justice with Judge Jeanine, Lara Trump said: "Look, he is the head of the Republican Party," referring to the former president. "He is really the person that everyone will continue to turn to in order to help them get across the line."

"Whether we're talking about 2022 or beyond, I think this man has changed politics and he has changed our party, the Republican Party," she added. "There is no doubt about it."

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at CPAC in Orlando, Florida next week in his first major public appearance since leaving office in January.

Trump has spoken at CPAC in previous years, but it was unclear if he would appear at the conference following his 2020 presidential election loss until Saturday.

The annual conservative conference, which normally takes place near Washington D.C., was moved to Florida this year to avoid strict coronavirus restrictions upheld in the area. Statewide coronavirus restrictions in Florida were lifted in late 2020.

Conference organizers told Newsweek on Saturday that Trump will speak on Sunday afternoon, the final day of the conference, which is scheduled to run from February 25 to February 28.

The former president will use his time to discuss the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement, according to The Hill. Trump is also expected to attack President Joe Biden's immigration plan by highlighting "disastrous amnesty and border policies."

Trump allies will address the convention—among them Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz, Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and Alabama Representative Mo Brooks—while no prominent Republican critics of the former president are listed on a speaker lineup that gives little indication of the GOP civil war.

"I'm really excited to hear him at CPAC. Obviously, it'll be the first time anyone has heard from him since he left office," Lara Trump said, adding that she believes the former president will take time out of his speech to thank his supporters.

"The outpouring of support for Donald Trump since he left office has been so incredible," she added. "So, he'll probably have a big thank you to those folks."

During her appearance on Justice with Judge Jeanine, Lara Trump also noted that her father-in-law "has indicated that he probably would be interested in running again in 2024."

"Well look, he has told us to stay tuned that this is not over for him," Lara Trump said.

Newsweek reached out to Lara Trump, but didn't hear back in time for publication.
