Lauren Boebert Calls GOP 'Swamp Creatures' For Helping Democrats Lift Debt Ceiling

Representative Lauren Boebert has strongly criticized what she called "swamp creatures" in the Republican Party who were working with Democrats in order to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a potential U.S. default.

The Republican who represents Colorado's 3rd congressional district, posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday where she described the efforts to raise the debt ceiling as "corrupt."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell struck a deal with Democrats that will allow them to raise the debt ceiling with just 51 votes in the Senate in a one-time procedure.

Boebert began by saying she had seen "corruption" and "swampy moves" during her first year in Congress before addressing the debt ceiling deal directly.

"This one right here beats all of them," Boebert said.

"Tonight, Senate GOP leadership joined with corrupt Democrat leadership to suspend the filibuster," she said.

The procedure that will allow Democrats to raise the debt ceiling without reaching 60 votes was approved by the House of Representatives on Tuesday but it will need to win support from 10 Republican Senators before the expedited process can take effect.

McConnell appeared confident he has the necessary votes.

"Why are they doing this?" Boebert asked. "The swamp creatures are working together to raise the freakin' debt ceiling. This is totally corrupt and screws the American people right in their faces, blatantly in broad daylight."

"I've said it before—in D.C. bipartisan means Republicans cave to Democrats. It never works the other way. And that's exactly what's happening right now," she said.

The debt ceiling, which is also known as the debt limit, is a legal limit on how much the federal government can owe to those who hold the country's debt in the form of Treasury bonds, as well as money the government has borrowed from other federal accounts.

That limit must be raised regularly so the U.S. can pay for expenses that have already been authorized by Congress and the president.

McConnell appears to be supporting a compromise on raising the debt ceiling in order to avoid a potential U.S. sovereign debt default, which would have potentially catastrophic effects on the economy.

Boebert criticized what she called RINOs, or Republicans in Name Only.

"Many RINOs run as conservatives and legislate like Pelosi," Boebert said. "Let me tell you, the American people will remember this."

"These fake Republicans message that we have to get our debt and spending under control then backstab the voters and hand a blank check to Biden, Bernie and the rest of these socialists," she added.
