Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls for Mark Milley to Face Court-Martial

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has called for General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to face a court-martial following a Washington Port report that he had spoken by phone with his Chinese counterpart.

Greene, a conservative Republican who represents Georgia's 14th congressional district, took to Twitter on Wednesday to join some of her GOP colleagues in demanding a court-martial.

The Post article, based on the new book Peril by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, reported that Milley spoke to General Li Zuocheng on October 30, 2020, and January 8, 2021 to assure him that the U.S. would not attack China.

Milley, the most senior military official in the U.S., also reportedly told Li that if the Trump White House were to launch an attack on China, he would inform Li about it.

Greene tweeted on Wednesday: "Court-martial Mark Milley."

Greene had earlier tweeted "Court Marshall Mark Milley" but deleted the post and sent a new tweet without the typo. She is not the first elected Republican to suggest a court-martial.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky tweeted on Tuesday: "I don't care what you think of President Trump, the Chairman of the JCOS working to subvert the military chain of command and collude with China is exactly what we do not accept from military leaders in our country. He should be court martialed if true."

Rep. Warren Davidson, a Republican representing Ohio's 8th congressional district, expressed the same sentiment, tweeting: "General Mark Milley should have already been fired. If these new allegations are correct, he should be court-martialed. America Last from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs directly to China cannot be ignored."

Some Republican lawmakers went further, accusing Milley of committing or considering treason.

Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas' 13th congressional district tweeted: "TREASON! Today's news adds to the long list of why Milley must go IMMEDIATELY! If this is true, he needs to be prosecuted, tried, and sentenced to the FULLEST extent of the law. NOTHING LESS! Colluding with our ENEMIES to undermine the President is TRAITOROUS!"

Newsweek has asked the Joint Chiefs of Staff for comment on the accusations of treason against Milley and the GOP calls for his ouster.

According to Military.com, a news site for armed forces personnel and veterans, the Uniform Code of Military Justice outlines three kinds of courts-martial. The most serious type is a general court-martial, in which a convicted person can be sentenced to death.

"The accused has a right to be represented by a free military attorney or may hire their own civilian lawyer," the website notes. "A general court-martial may deliver any punishment not prohibited by the UCMJ, including death when specifically authorized."
