The drawing was held at 11 p.m. EST on Tuesday. The selected numbers drawn were 15-20-32-37-52, Mega Ball 6, and Megaplier 3X, according to the Mega Millions website. Although no one won last night's jackpot, there were eight people who won $10,000 after matching four white balls and the Mega Ball, the lottery website states. The next Mega Millions drawing will be held on Friday at 11 p.m. EST. The jackpot is now worth $45 million with a cash option of $26.8 million, according to the Mega Millions website.
Mega Millions drawings take place twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. EST. The lottery game costs $2 to play, according to the Mega Millions website. Mega Millions is played when players choose five numbers ranging from one through 70, and then a sixth number from one through 25 for the Mega Ball, the lottery website states.
On Monday, the South Carolina Education Lottery Commission announced that the winner of the $1.5 billion jackpot came forward to claim their prize from the October 23 drawing. The commission said in a press release that the winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, chose the one-time payment of $877,784,124. Lottery officials said this is the largest jackpot payout in U.S. lottery history.
"We are delighted that the winner is a South Carolinian and has come forward to claim this remarkable prize. We offer sincere congratulations and are very happy that one of our South Carolina retailers, KC Mart in Simpsonville, will receive $50,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket," Hogan Brown, the Commission's Executive Director, said in a statement. "The State of South Carolina will benefit from $61 million that will be collected in income taxes from the winner. We respect the winner's decision to remain anonymous, and we will honor the winner's wishes."
There was another Mega Millions winner on Friday. One lucky winner from New Jersey won the Mega Million's jackpot worth $267 million with a cash option of $161.7 million. The winning numbers for Friday night's drawing were 29-33-39-60-66, Mega Ball 21, and Megaplier 2X, according to the Mega Millions website.
