Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Congratulate Princess Eugenie on Royal Baby
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have privately congratulated Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on the birth of their baby boy.
The young royal was born yesterday morning just before 9 a.m. U.K. time. Great grandmother Queen Elizabeth II was said by Buckingham Palace to be "delighted."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been in touch with Eugenie, who is Prince Harry's cousin, according to a report in Town & Country, confirmed by Newsweek.
A statement on the Twitter account for Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, reads: "Congratulations to Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on the birth of their son."
And yesterday a Buckingham Palace statement read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital.
"Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.
"This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York's first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The news comes after a difficult period for the York family, with Eugenie's father Prince Andrew locked in a standoff with the DOJ. last year over whether he will give evidence to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
However, it has not all been bad news as Princess Beatrice married in the summer in a scaled-down COVID-compliant ceremony in Windsor.
No name has yet been revealed for the new royal although U.K. bookmakers have offered odds, with Arthur the front runner at 5-1.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes is also offering 6-1 on James, while Frederick, Edward and Albert are all at 8-1 and Albert, Hugo and Alfred are at 10-1.
Jessica O'Reilly, a spokesperson for Ladbrokes, said: "Huge congratulations to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on the birth of their son.
"The early betting is pointing towards a traditional name like Arthur for Eugenie and Jack's son."
She added: "However, given Eugenie's name we can't rule out something a little more out-there such as Tarquin or Humphrey."
Eugenie's baby is 11th in line to the British throne, coming in one space behind her and above Prince Edward, the queen's youngest son.
Elizabeth awaits the arrival of her 10th great-grandchild later this year when granddaughter Zara Tindall is due to give birth to her third child.
