Get an Exclusive Look at Sonya Blade's Friendship in 'Mortal Kombat 11'

Mortal Kombat 11 is getting a huge update soon. Not only will fans get to purchase a story expansion and three new DLC characters, the free update on May 26 will feature the return of Friendships.

Every character including the three DLC fighters will have a Friendship that players can use instead of a Fatality.

Newsweek has an exclusive look at Sonya Blade's Friendship in Mortal Kombat 11, which you can watch below.

Sonya's Friendship sees the Earth Realm Force leader play with her robot in a game of fetch. However, what the robot brings back isn't the stick, but Baraka.

This isn't the first lady of Mortal Kombat's first Friendship. Back in Mortal Kombat 3, Sonya's unique finisher had her performing some arm exercises. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, she gave a salute and flowers sprouted from the ground.

This Friendship is not the first Mortal Kombat fans got to experience when the Aftermath update was announced earlier this month. The first was Scorpion whose finisher sees the spectre use his spear to grab a giant teddy bear.

Kano's Friendship sees the Black Dragon member bring out his grill and use his cybernetic eye to start the fire. Sub-Zero's Friendship has the leader of the Lin Kuei ride an ice cream cart and start making frozen treats using his ice powers.

Our favorite, however, is Noob Saibot's Friendship. Sub-Zero's brother splits into three and plays double dutch with himself.

The Friendship concept was introduced to the Mortal Kombat franchise back in 1993 with Mortal Kombat 2. After the outcry from the violence of the original Mortal Kombat, Friendships were added as a response to those who weren't a fan of the over-the-top Fatalities.

The unique finishers would return in Mortal Kombat 3 and the expansion, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, but have not returned to the series until now.

Along with the return of Friendships, the free Aftermath update will also add new Stage Fatalities.

Fans who want to get the entire Aftermath experience, the story expansion will cost $40. Not only will the Aftermath DLC give a continuation of the main Mortal Kombat 11 story, it'll include Fujin, Sheeva and Robocop as playable characters.

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath will be released for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch on May 26.
