Netflix TV Shows: The 10 Most-Watched in September

The September Netflix TV charts felt a lot like the Emmys, which also aired this month, with a small set of shows dominating the top spots. In fact, only three shows managed to get to number one of the chart: Ratched, Away and Cobra Kai.

The rest of the Netflix top 10 series chart, meanwhile, was a mix of some new Netflix originals, some big-name imports like The Blacklist and some classic sitcoms making their way into the streaming era for the first time. A little-known kid's animation about nursery rhymes, meanwhile, became a breakout hit among the younger viewers of the streamer enough to challenge some of the bigger names.

The top 10 most-watched TV shows on Netflix in September

10. Chef's Table: BBQ
Days on chart: 8
Highest position: 3

Barbecue shows have become a hot new niche for Netflix, with both Chef's Table: BBQ and The American Barbecue Showdown spending multiple days on the chart. The former won out in the end, however, for combining food porn barbecue footage with stories around the world, giving those still stuck at home a welcome dose of wanderlust.

9. The Blacklist
Days on chart: 12
Highest position: 3

The latest season of the James Spader procedural came to Netflix this September, giving fans who missed it earlier in the year a chance to catch it—and giving those who already saw it a chance to rewatch and complain about the animated finale all over again.

8. Get Organized with The Home Edit
Days on chart: 12
Highest position: 3

There is nothing quite like lying in bed surrounded by the clutter and mess of your life and seeing other people being forced to throw things away by a manic-eyed "organization expert" like Marie Kondo or the team behind the Home Edit. You could fold your socks into pyramids, or you could just throw them on the floor and watch another episode.

7. Lucifer
Days on chart: 16
Highest position: 2

The only show to stay on the chart from last month, the Tom Ellis-starring show even managed to chart a place higher in September as Lucifans continued to devour the first part of Lucifer Season 5 with its two Lucifers, its reveal of God...and, of course, its gratuitous nudity.

6. Sister Sister
Days on chart: 15
Highest position: 2

The latest show from Netflix's collection of classic Black sitcoms from the '90s, Netflix viewers spent September happily reliving the young adventures of Tia and Tamara – as well as grieving after getting to see a young Brittany Murphy in one of her earliest roles.

5. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous
Days on chart: 12
Highest position: 2

The original Jurassic Park movies were a Netflix hit last month, and the franchise's first animated show has been just as popular among dino-fans who have loved the story of six teens stuck on Jurassic World's Isla Nublar. The show, however, was kept off of the top spot on the Netflix TV chart, however, by a bigger monster...

4. Ratched
Days on chart: 12
Highest position: 1

...Nurse Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson. Ratched is a new prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which feels like someone started reading a summary of the classic book, then got bored and started watching American Horror Story instead. Clearly, though, Netflix viewers are getting something out of it – even if it is just laughing at meme-worthy moments as Sarah Paulson argues about a peach, eats an oyster from Cynthia Nixon's hand and Sharon Stone acts alongside a monkey.

3. Cocomelon
Days on chart: 30
Highest position: 4

Most Netflix users probably have never heard of Cocomelon, but parents of young kids all over the world certainly will know the name of the makers of animated nursery rhymes, whose videos have been watched 77.9 billion times of YouTube (the second most-viewed channel in the world.) Now, those cartoons and songs for pre-schoolers have found a new audience as a digital childminder for the kids of Netflix subscribers.

2. Away
Days on chart: 24
Highest position: 1

September on Netflix was very much the battle of the Karate Kid alum, with The Next Karate Kid's Hillary Swank battling it out with the original, Ralph Macchio. Swank and co may have made it to Mars in their spacefaring drama Away, but in the Netflix dojo she was not able to beat...

1. Cobra Kai
Days on chart: 30
Highest position: 1

....Cobra Kai, the Karate Kid spin-off starring Macchio and William Zabka. The show may have debuted on YouTube three years ago, but in September it became a phenomenon, breaking Netflix records and leaving an entire generation dusting off their karategi.
