Has the most staggering transfer in football history finally reached its conclusion?

According to reports in Italy, the answer is yes. La Stampa, the Italian newspaper, claims Paul Pogba, the France and Juventus midfielder, will complete a deal to move to Manchester United on Friday for £101.7 million ($133.3 million).

That will make the midfielder, at 23, the most expensive transfer ever, eclipsing the fee Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale in the summer of 2013.

Pogba, it is claimed, will undergo a medical in Los Angeles on Friday before flying to Manchester to tie up the formalities of the deal, including his weekly wage, which could be around £220,000 ($290,000). La Stampa reported that the contract will run until 2021.

The move will complete a remarkable rise and return for Pogba, who moved from United to Juventus on a free transfer in the summer of 2012. A teenager at the time, he felt his first-team opportunities limited under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Now he prepares to return to Old Trafford as part of the most lucrative deal in history.
