'Pokemon Go' Dia de Muertos Event: Field Research, Tasks and Rewards For November Revealed

For the first time ever, Pokemon Go is hosting a Día de Muertos event globally, meaning that you do not have to be in Latin America to join in with any tasks or receive the associated rewards.

Dia de los Muertos (or "Day of the Dead" in English) is a holiday that originated in Mexico. While it overlaps somewhat with Halloween—running from late October 31 through to November 2—it has differences to the Western celebration.

Dia de Muertos is not dedicated to spreading mischief or giving people a good fright. Rather it is all about commemorating the lives of those who have passed on. Specifically, it is believed to be a special point in time during which the deceased can visit their living relatives via altars known as ofrendas. If you want to know more about the history of the celebration and its various traditions, Newsweek has you covered here.

As with Halloween, Pokemon Go has previously organized special challenges for Dia de Muertos. However, given the holiday's heritage, this content has never been available outside of a handful of territories.

That is until now, as 2021's Dia de Muertos update is being rolled out globally. The Pokemon Go celebration begins at 10 a.m. local time on November 1 and will conclude at 8 p.m. the following day.

All of the relevant details can be found below.

These bonuses will last until 8 p.m. on November 2.
