'Pokémon Go' Trading Coming This Week, With Friend Feature

Pokémon Go players rejoice! Niantic is finally adding trading to the popular mobile game this week with the release of the Friend feature.

According to the official Niantic blog, the Friends feature will allow players to journey together, share items and trade Pokémon. The blog post includes a bunch of information on how to add friends, what trainers can do together and how to trade, which is a bit more involved than in the mainline Pokémon games.

Here's all the information you need to use the new Friends feature in Pokémon Go.

HOW TO ADD FRIENDS

To use and add trainers in the Friends feature in Pokémon Go, you will have to exchange Trainer Codes so the game can register them. Simply invite a friend to join you by entering their Trainer Code and sending a request. If they accept, you'll become friends and they should appear in the Friends List

ITEMS AND FRIENDSHIP LEVELS

Now that you have added some friends, you can interact with them in various ways in Pokémon Go. One way is sending items to help friends on their journey.

By spinning the Photo Disc at Gyms and PokeStops, you'll receive a special gift you can't open. These gifts can be sent to friends and contain various items. In addition to helpful items and a postcard showing where you got it, some gifts will contain an egg. When hatched, the egg will contain an Alola Pokémon.

So far only Alola Exeggutor is in Pokémon Go. Alola Diglett and Geodude are set to be released in the game in July. However, the eggs may contain Alola Vulpix, Sandshrew, Rattata, Meowth or Grimer.

Exchanging gifts in this manner will increase your Friendship Level. Friendship Levels are signifiers of how often you play Pokémon Go together and go from one to four hearts, with four being the highest.

Participating in Gym or Raid Battles with a friend will also increase your Friendship Level. Some perks are unlocked when a Friendship reaches a certain level. For example, if friends with a "Great" friendship battle in a Raid together, the attack power of their Pokémon will increase.

You can only increase a Friendship Level once per day per friend.

TRADING

Trading can also increase a Friendship Level in Pokémon Go . First, you'll need to be at Level 10 or higher to trade and be near each other to use the Trade feature. You'll earn bonus Candy for the Pokémon you traded away, and that bonus increases if the Pokémon was caught in locations far apart from each other.

Trades in Pokémon Go are powered by Stardust, with some trades requiring more than others. As your Friendship Level increases, the amount of Stardust necessary will decrease.

A Special Trade will be required to swap Legendary and Shiny Pokémon, or a Pokémon not currently in a player's Pokedex. These can only be done once per day with a "Great" or "Best" Friend and often requires a lot of Stardust.
