'Pokémon Go' Hoenn Event: Start Time, Shiny Zigzagoon and Taillow, and Everything You Need to Know

Niantic finally revealed what that change in habitat for Hoenn Region Pokémon in Pokémon Go means an event is coming. The next event in the popular mobile game will be the Hoenn Event, which will give trainers more chances to catch Pokémon from the third generation and introduces a couple of new Shiny Pokémon.

Aside from the new Shinies and increased spawns, Pokémon Go players will also see the return of two Legendary Raids as well as new Research Tasks based on Generation 3.

There's quite a bit to go over before the start of the Pokémon Go Hoenn Event, so here's everything you need to know including the start time, which Pokémon will appear as Shiny and everything in between.

HOENN EVENT START TIME

The Pokémon Go Hoenn Event will begin Tuesday, January 15 at 4 p.m. EST and end on Tuesday, January 29 at 4 p.m. EST.

SHINY ZIGZAGOON AND TAILLOW

Hoenn Pokémon will appear more frequently during this two-week period so expect more Zigzagoon and Taillow than usual. However, the Shiny forms of both Pokémon will be unlocked in Pokémon Go so the chances of encountering one will increase during the event.

It's a good excuse to encounter every single Zigzagoon and Taillow you come across just to have a chance at catching one of the rare Shinies.

Shiny Zigzagoon changes its brown coloring into gold while Shiny Taillow changes its blue coloring into a more green color.

KYOGRE AND GROUDON RETURN

Heatran is set to leave the Raids on January 15, but will be replaced with two returning Legendary bosses, Kyogre and Groudon.

With the return of both Hoenn Legendaries, the rest of the Raid Bosses should change as well. If you missed out on either Legendary in the past, this will give you another shot at catching these powerful behemoths.

OTHER IN-GAME BONUSES

As for in-game bonuses, avatar items based on Team Aqua and Team Magma will can be purchased in the shop.

Hoenn Pokémon will appear more often 7km Eggs. It's not clear what Pokémon specifically will hatch, but we'll update as soon as we learn more. Also, if you evolve your Shroomish into Breloom during the Hoenn Event, the Grass and Fighting-type Pokémon will learn the exclusive move Grass Knot.
