'Pokémon Go' Update: Shiny Feebas Coming Next Weekend via Research Task

Niantic just announced a new mini-event happening later this month that features the Water-type Pokémon, Feebas.

According to the Niantic Pokémon Go blog, special limited time research tasks can be obtained by spinning the Photo Disc at nearby PokeStops. These tasks, when completed, will give Pokémon Go players an encounter with Feebas.

Feebas may not look like more than a different colored Magikarp, it evolves into the majestic Milotic by using 100 Feebas candy and walking with your Pokémon for 20km. The Water-type Pokémon is one of the rarer finds from the Hoenn Region so this is the perfect opportunity to catch as many as you can to evolve and power up.

However, an added perk to completing these limited time research tasks in Pokémon Go is the chance to encounter a Shiny Feebas. Normal Feebas is a yellowish color with blue fins, but when it's a Shiny its color changes to purple with grey-colored fins. And when you evolve your Shiny Feebas into Milotic, its coloring changes as well with the water serpent's red hair turning blue.

The limited time Feebas event will start on January 19 from 2-5 p.m. EST.

Earlier in the month, Niantic revealed in an official Pokémon newsletter to fans that Hoenn Pokémon would be moving.

The newsletter reads, "Trainers, we have some news to share! We've heard reports of a migration pattern that could affect the appearance of Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn Region. Perhaps, we'll learn more later this month."

While this Feebas event may not be what Niantic is referring to, the Water-type Pokémon is from Hoenn so it's possible that more of these limited time research tasks will pop up.

This new Pokémon Go event comes a week after the upcoming Totodile Community Day event that will introduce Shiny Totodile into the mobile game. With the Totodile and Feebas lines getting Shinies in Pokémon Go here's the list of all Shiny Pokémon in the game:
