'Pokémon Go' Love Cup: Start Time and Best Options for New Battle Format

With Valentine's Day around the corner, Pokémon Go is ready to have trainers duke it out in a special Go Battle League format called the Love Cup.

The Love Cup will feature Pokémon that are red and pink in color and offer a new way for Pokémon Go trainers to battle and determine who is the best like no one ever was.

Will you be able to take your team of themed Pokémon and defeat your opponent? Here's everything you need to know about the Pokémon Go Love Cup battle, including when it begins and the best options to bring to the fight.

The Pokémon Go Love Cup begins Monday, February 8 starting at 4 p.m. EDT and ends Monday, February 15 at 4 p.m. EDT.

As mentioned above, only red and pink Pokémon can participate in the Love Cup. These Pokémon also can't be above 1500 Combat Power (CP), so that may make finding the right team to take into battle difficult.

From the list of available Pokémon, there are plenty of Grass and Bug-type options to consider bringing and some of the many Fire-type Pokémon.

With no Steel types in this format, Fairy-type Pokémon will be popular options, especially those that can use the move Charm. Counter them with Fire and Poison-type Pokémon.

According to Pokémon Go database PVPoke, these are the top Pokémon that trainers are looking to use:

  • Lickylikcy with Lick and Shadow Ball.
  • Alomomola with Waterfall and Hydro Pump.
