'Pokémon Go' Update: New Evolutions and Pokémon Added

An unexpected new Pokémon Go update has rolled out and it brings more evolutions along with Pokémon from the Sinnoh Region.

Pokémon fans may have noticed that some Generation 4 evolutions were not available when Sinnoh was introduced, so it was only a matter of time before Niantic released them. That day is today.

However, there is more to this Pokémon Go update than just added evolutions. New Pokémon from the Sinnoh Region that haven't appeared in the popular mobile game before are now available to be caught. There's also an Egg Chart change and some new moves for certain Pokémon to learn.

Here's everything that we know about this new Pokémon Go update. We'll continue to update as we gain more information.

New evolutions from the Sinnoh Region arrive in 'Pokemon Go' Niantic

The first new additions are evolutions to Gen 1, 2, and 3 Pokémon. Like past Sinnoh Evolutions, Pokémon Go trainers will need to consume 100 candy and use a Sinnoh Stone to evolve certain Pokémon.

Aipom will now evolve into Ambipom, Snorunt will evolve into Froslass, Tangela will evolve into Tangrowth, Lickitung will evolve into Lickilicky, Kirlia into Gallade, and Yanma into Yanmega.

However, there are reports that attempting to evolve female Kirlia into Gallade or male Snorunts into Froslass will result in an error message. In the main Pokémon games, only male Kirlia can evolve into Gallade while only female Snorunts can evolve into Froslass.

Piloswine won't evolve into Mamoswine until the Swinub Community Day in February.

Sinnoh Stones are distributed in Pokémon Go randomly. They can only be obtained via the Research Breakthrough, and as a random reward for PVP battles.

There are a handful of new Sinnoh Region Pokémon that are available to catch in Pokémon Go . There are reports of Cranidos, Shieldon, Glameow and Combee being available.

We will update this section if more Pokémon appear in the wild.

Niantic announced that some Pokémon from the Sinnoh Region will begin appearing in Eggs, but it's likely the baby Pokémon, Bonsly, Mime Jr., and Happiny appearing in 7km Eggs.

We will update with confirmed information.
