'Pokémon Go' Moltres Community Day: Start Time, Counters and How to Catch Shiny

Following the successful Pokémon Go Safari Zone event in Japan, players will be treated to a special Community Day event featuring Moltres.

Similar to the Articuno and Zapdos Community Day events, Pokémon Go players will see all Raid Battles feature the Fire and Flying-type Legendary. Players will also receive five free Raid Passes to start their journey to capture this Pokémon. Niantic confirmed that Moltres will have Sky Attack as its Charged move when caught and you may even encounter a Shiny, if you're lucky.

Here's all the information Pokémon Go players need to make the most out of Moltres Community Day.

Moltres will be present in all Raid Battles on Sept. 8 Niantic

Niantic confirmed that the Moltres Community Day event will start on Sept. 8 for a three-hour period. The timing for when Moltres will appear in Raids has yet to be confirmed, but based on the last two events players can expect it to go from 2-5 p.m. EDT.

Like the past Articuno and Zapdos Community Day events, Pokémon Go players will have a chance at catching a Shiny Moltres.

Players won't know if the Moltres they are battling in a Raid will be Shiny until after it's defeated, so gather your friends and take down as many Legendary Pokémon as you can.

Moltres, like other Legendaries, is a Tier 5 Raid Boss that will take a lot of effort and teamwork to take down. It is a Fire and Flying-type Pokémon, however, which gives it a lot of weaknesses especially to Rock-type attacks.

Moltres will use a variety of Fire-type attacks so bringing Rock and Water-type Pokémon will benefit you and your friends.

Here's a list of Pokémon that are the best to counter Moltres:

  • Tyranitar - Smackdown and Stone Edge
  • Golem - Rock Throw and Stone Edge
  • Alolan Golem - Rock Throw and Wild Charge/Stone Edge
  • Omastar - Rock Throw and Rock Slide
  • Raikou - Thundershock and Wild Charge
  • Zapdos - Thundershock and Thunderbolt
