'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Crown Tundra DLC Release Time: When Can You Play Expansion?

The time is finally here. The Crown Tundra DLC, the second and presumably last expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield, is about to be released this week, giving trainers more Pokémon to catch and adventures to be had.

Pokémon trainers have learned a bit more information about the upcoming DLC, including how Dynamax Adventures will work, but there are a lot of secrets still to be discovered, especially with the Legendary Pokémon that were revealed earlier this year.

Here's all the information you need to know about the Crown Tundra DLC.

The release timing of DLC on Nintendo Switch is a bit tricky to predict or figure out, but with other information we've got, we can narrow down a range as to when players will be able to explore the Galar region's Crown Tundra.

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the Crown Tundra DLC will release Thursday, October 22. However, a planned maintenance on the Pokémon Home app will give a window for when exactly it'll drop.

According to the Pokémon Home in-app news, the mobile and Nintendo Switch app will undergo maintenance starting October 22 at 7 p.m. and ending 12 a.m. EDT on October 23.

This seems to suggest that North American players will be able to start playing the Crown Tundra DLC after the maintenance has ended, which was the case when the Isle of Armor DLC was released.

Of course, this means the time zones other than the East Coast will receive the DLC on Thursday.

We'll update this section if we gain any more information regarding the timing.

To download the Crown Tundra DLC, players must enter the Nintendo eShop with a strong internet connection. Usually, new titles and downloadable content are featured on the front page, but buyers can manually search for the title as well.

The Crown Tundra DLC is available to pre-download now, so you can purchase and get your Switch ready for the specified release date. Players will need to have a copy of either Sword or Shield to download the expansion, and players will need to purchase the correct version. The Sword expansion pass will only work for Pokémon Sword while the Shield expansion pass will only work for Pokémon Shield.

It can also be downloaded when you're within Sword and Shield itself. By Simply pressing the Y button and moving your cursor to the "expansion pass" logo in the bottom right corner, you'll automatically be sent to the Nintendo eShop, where you can purchase the correct version.

The expansion pass costs $29.99 and will give you the Isle of Armor DLC and the Crown Tundra DLC.

If you've already bought the expansion pass, simply update your Pokémon game and the Crown Tundra DLC will become available.
