'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Shiny Wailord Raid Event Focuses on Water Types

The Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield have shifted to focus on Water types, and trainers can get a guaranteed Shiny Wailord during this limited time event.

Sea Pokémon Invasion is the name of this Water-specific event, and it features a handful of Water types that trainers can use in battle, including Gigantamax Kingler and Sharpedo.

As with every Max Raid Battle, defeating the Pokémon will give rewards like Armorite Ores and powerful TRs to teach your Pokémon new moves.

POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD WATER TYPE RAID SCHEDULE

The Sea Pokémon Invasion Max Raid Battle event is currently running and will end Sunday, July 19, at 7:59 p.m. EDT.

HOW TO ACCESS RAIDS IN THE WILD AREA

The first thing players will want to do is update their Wild Area News. To do this, simply access the menu (X) and select "Mystery Gift." Select "Get the Wild Area News" after that, and then connect to the internet.

While exploring the Wild Area, trainers will want to search the dens with the red beams of light coming out of them. The silhouette of a Pokémon will appear to show what is found inside.

If you're looking for a Shiny Wailord, you'll want to look for the Water-type Pokémon's silhouette in Level 5 Raids. You'll see the level when you first select on a den and see the number of stars attached to it.

To join other people's Raid Battle, players will need to connect to the internet. You can learn more about that in our Sword and Shield online guide.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM LATEST MAX RAID BATTLE UPDATE

The Max Raid Battles are the same between Sword and Shield during this event, so there is no fear of missing out on having one version of the Gen 8 games.

While the highlight of this event will be trying to catch a Shiny Wailord, trainers will also have a chance at catching a Gigantamax Kingler if they haven't already. Also, this will be the perfect time to catch a Sharpedo with its Hidden Ability, Speed Boost, which increases the Pokémon's speed by one stage after each turn.
