'Pokemon Unite' Patch Addresses Crustle and Lucario Bugs Ahead of Mamoswine Update

Pokemon Unite has been patched to resolve a couple of bugs associated with the Crustle and Lucario fighters.

Last week, Pokemon Unite underwent a substantial update that brought the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) to cell phone devices and finally enabled its crossplay functionality. In addition to this, the patch also introduced new holowear cosmetics for Pikachu and a "squads" feature that basically allows you to form online clans.

While these changes were well received by the community, the update did, unfortunately, have a few unintended side effects. Specifically, players began to notice that the game's balancing had been adversely impacted by some new bugs, causing the Crustle and Lucario fighters to become greatly overpowering.

In the case of the former, the rock type Pokemon would gain an excessive strength boost in certain situations. Meanwhile, if players knew how to trigger a particular glitch with Lucario's "Extreme Speed" attack, then the all-rounder would be capable of dealing an inordinate amount of damage.

It has been reported that, by exploiting these bugs, some gamers were able to effectively wipe out entire teams within the space of just a few seconds (given that "Extreme Speed" can be recharged instantly if the hit lands).

As such, many fans claimed that they were taking a break from ranked matches of Pokemon Unite until the bugs were addressed. After all, competitive MOBAs like this require that every playable character be carefully balanced (with both fair strengths and weaknesses), otherwise there is no incentive to choose anybody but those with the best stats.

Pokemon Unite has a robust roster, yet, for much of last week, Crustle and Lucario were essentially the only viable characters. To make matters worse, neither fighter was removed from the game while a solution was being implemented, meaning that certain matches became borderline unplayable if the other team utilized the exploits.

Fortunately, TiMi Studio has confirmed on Twitter that these issues have now been fixed and that ranked matches should be back to normal. The announcement was posted by the official Pokemon Unite Twitter account in the late evening of Sunday, September 26, at 11:34 p.m. ET.

Attention, Trainers! The following issues have been fixed:
・Crustle may gain an unintended strength boost in certain circumstances
・Lucario's Extreme Speed attack may deal more damage than intended in certain circumstances

Thank you for your patience while these were resolved.

Mamoswine Update To Launch This Week

TiMi Studio understandably wanted to resolve these issues before the next update for Pokemon Unite arrives on Wednesday, September 29.

The upcoming expansion will introduce Mamoswine to the roster. For those who are not aware, this is an ice-type Pokemon that first debuted back in Diamond and Pearl.

The reveal trailer for its inclusion in Pokemon Unite showcases its ability to hit opponents with its tusks, smash the ground with a powerful Area of Effect (AoE) attack, summon a bombardment of hail, and freeze enemies into blocks of ice before launching them into the air.

You will need to acquire the Mamoswine trainer license if you want to play as this new character at launch. An explanation of how you can purchase these licenses in Pokemon Unite can be found here.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android.
