Riyad Mahrez paid homage to former winners of the PFA Player of the Year Award after receiving the gong for the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Mahrez beat two Leicester City teammates , Jamie Vardy and N'Golo Kanté , to the prize which was presented on Sunday (April 24) at Grosvenor House in London.

"When you hear the names of these players it is a big honour to be part of this," Mahrez said.

"And, like I said, I am grateful to receive this and I am very happy."

The 25-year-old Algerian, who has 17 goals and 11 assists in the league this season, had earlier helped Leicester go one step closer to the Premier League title with a 4-0 win over Swansea.

Vardy came runner-up while Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, top goal-scorer in the Premier League, came in third.

Also nominated were West Ham United's Dimitri Payet and Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.

Kane's Spurs teammate Dele Alli picked up the PFA Young Footballer of the Year Award.
