Puppy Clinging Onto Owner's Arm During First Bath Melts Hearts: 'Help Me'

Pets never fail to put a smile on our faces, whether it's a babysitting dog, a demanding cat, or a smart pup that figured out how to escape out of its pen.

And more recently, one puppy captured thousands of users' attention after a TikTok user shared a video of their dog's first bathing experience.

Under the username angelikaap8, the user shared the video on Monday, captioning it "First Bath Time." Since then, the post has amassed more than 1.7 million views and over 317,200 likes.

In the video, the user appeared to be bathing the puppy when it clung to its owner's arm with an alarmed look in its eyes. According to the owner's bio description on TikTok, the user is a "mumma of six puppies and two dogs," one of which is likely the puppy featured in the video.

According to the American Kennel Club, the frequency with which dog owners should bathe their canine companions varies depending on their pet's breed, lifestyle and length of coat. While some breeds require constant care, most dogs with medium-to-large coats require baths "from weekly to every 4-to-6 weeks, as long as the coat is properly maintained in-between."

However, some common breeds with thick or double coats such as Siberian Huskies, Labrador retrievers and golden retrievers have naturally insulating fur. Because of this, over-bathing "could strip too much oil from the skin and disrupt this process."

In response to one of the comments on the video, the OP (original poster) clarified that the puppy's breed is a "helpie," a cross between a blue heeler (also known as the Australian cattle dog) and an Australian kelpie.

As is often the case with most pet-related viral posts on social media, fellow users didn't hesitate to express their admiration for the puppy in the comment section.

"[Hanging] on for grim death. Bless his little heart," wrote a user.

"Too cute for words," one person shared.

Another user applauded the puppy's courage. "He's a brave little floof," they wrote.

Some commenters even tried to put the puppy's possible thoughts into words: "'Don't let me drown mummy.'"

"Somebody help me please!," another user wrote.

This wouldn't be the first occasion where a pet has gone viral on social media for its adorable behavior. Recently, Newsweek wrote about an Australian Shepherd befriending a shorthair cat whose owner had passed away. Newsweek also covered a story about a miniature Dachshund "dogfluencer" who has a bigger wardrobe than his owner.

Newsweek reached out to angelikaap8 for comment.
