The Rookie has come to an end for this year with a winter finale that saw Tim (played by Eric Winter) get some closure with his father, while Nolan's (Nathan Fillion) plans to get engaged to Bailey (Jenna Dewan) was ruined by the return of her husband.
The return of Jason (Steve Kazee, Dewan's real-life husband) left the ABC show on a big cliffhanger which will be resolved in Episode 10, but fans will have to wait a few weeks before they get to see how it plays out. The show is now taking a winter break, with new episodes not resuming until 2022.
Luckily for Rookie fans, ABC has already revealed when Season 4 will continue. Plus, details of what will happen in the second half of the season are already starting to be revealed.
Here's what we know so far about when to expect The Rookie Season 4, Episode 10.
When is The Rookie returning?
"Heart Beat" is just three weeks away. The release date of The Rookie Season 4, Episode 10 is Sunday, January 2.
On that day, the show will return in its usual time slot—that is, 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT.
ABC has not released a synopsis for the episode yet, but they have dropped a promo that gives some hints about what viewers can expect from the new episode.
When the show returns in 2022, it will be with a crash—literally. In the promo, we see Nolan and his partner arriving at the scene of a light aircraft crash. This means that, at least for a little while, his romantic drama will have to go on the back burner...
...But not for long. Nolan is sure to have plenty of questions after the reveal of Bailey's husband Jason—and we get to see one of those questions in the promo. We see Nolan ask: "So you're married?" He then adds: "You didn't tell me."
In a TVLine interview, showrunner Alexi Hawley teased more about this major plot development. Asked whether Jason was Bailey's ex-husband, Hawley said: "No, he's her husband. Obviously, we will get in to why she didn't tell John and all that. Going into the next episode, we will be teasing a complicated history there."
Though it was not alluded to in the trailer, Hawley also dropped some hints about what is in store for Lucy (Melissa O'Neil). He said: "Ultimately we're going to lean into some personal journeys for her that I don't want to spoil yet. And there might be a love interest coming around for her in the future. But yeah, that's all I want to spoil for her."
The Rookie airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT on Fox. Every episode so far is streaming on Hulu.
