Original Story

The final DLC fighter in the first Fighters Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is about to release, and players will get - for better or worse - another Fire Emblem character.

Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be the fifth DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and brings their signature weapon, as well as the ones used by the three house leaders, into the fight.

The next DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate drops on Tuesday, January 28 and with it - likely - another update. If you're wondering when and how to download Byleth into your game, here's all the information you'll need.

Byleth will release on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Tuesday, January 28, but the exact release timing of new characters has always been difficult to predict. Series director, Masahiro Sakurai didn't confirm when Byleth will become available, but if you have paid attention to when the last big updates/DLC were released, it's possible to at least get an idea.

Version 6.0 with Terry Bogard released around 9 a.m. EST, almost immediately after the stream that announced the release date.

Version 5.0 with Banjo-Kazooie released around 8 p.m. EST with Version 4.0 and The Hero from the Dragon Quest series around 9 p.m. EST. If you go even further back, Joker, the first DLC character as part of the Fighters Pass, and Version 3.0 was released April 17 around 9 p.m. EST.

Piranha Plant, an early purchase reward, was released January 29, 2019 around 8 p.m. EST.

With those times in mind, Byleth will likely either release around 9 a.m. or 9 p.m. on Tuesday. We'll update this section when

Players who wish to purchase Byleth can do so separately or as part of the Fighters Pass. Go to the Nintendo eShop and search "byleth" or "fighters pass." There you can sort the results by Downloadable Content, which will put the latest DLC at the top of the list.

Alone, Byleth costs $5.99, while purchasing the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass will run players $24.99. The Fighters Pass includes Joker, The Hero, Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard and Byleth.

Byleth's release will also come with a new stage and music from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

A second Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass was confirmed and will include six more DLC fighters so be sure to check back for more information on that.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
