'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Trailer Leak: Where Are Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire?

The team at Marvel always has a job at ensuring their secrets from the set are kept that way until the movie is ready to come out. Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man, is notoriously bad at keeping secrets and is often probed for spoilers.

However, a recent leak of the upcoming trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently the spoiler focus for fans, with some plot details revealed.

The return of Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, though already revealed, was seen once again in the flesh, while more of Doctor Strange's (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) role was revealed.

Who did not appear, however, were Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who fans are convinced will show up in the new movie.

Why Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire Aren't In the Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer

The leaked trailer did not show any of Garfield and Maguire, though this is one of the main theories around the upcoming movie.

The reason this is making such a splash with fans is because of the multiverse idea.

Molina's return confirms Spider-Man: No Way Home is delving into the multiverse, with Spider-Man coming up against villains from other versions of the franchise.

Doctor Octopus was the nemesis of Maguire's Spider-Man in Spider-Man 2, while another confirmed cast member, Jamie Foxx, who played the villain Elektro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is coming up against Garfield's Spider-Man.

Given the villains are returning, it makes sense the heroes might also return, but the leak suggested no such thing.

Marvel has not confirmed this rumor at any point, and they even allowed Holland out to bat for them, who denied it.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Holland said of their presence in the movie: "It would be amazing if they were because they haven't told me that yet and I am Spider-Man and I've read the script from the beginning to the end. So it would be a miracle if they could keep that from me."

Holland's notoriety about spoilers came when he inadvertently revealed the name of the second movie before it was officially announced, leading to much derision from his co-stars.

For the reveal of Spider-Man: No Way Home, this was even featured in the announcement video, where his co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon jibed at him for his spoilers.

In the clip, he asked for the name but was refused and they mocked him for not being allowed to know the new title.

Then, the group walked past a whiteboard with the title and various other sketches revealed.

What Happens In the Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer?

The official trailer is yet to be released, so it may be the leaked trailer will be altered in the future to ensure the footage fans can enjoy is completely new.

However, the leak showed Peter Parker (Holland) reeling from the revelation of his name being known throughout the world.

He has to speak to people about it who never knew, such as his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and those at his school.

He enlists the help of Doctor Strange to erase this knowledge from his friend's minds, though as Strange is doing the spell, Peter keeps asking him whether certain people can be excluded, such as his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya).

The questioning and talking seems to force Strange to lose concentration and, seemingly, throws off the spell, launching them into the multiverse.

From there, things are not what they were, with the final image showing Peter coming up against Doctor Octopus (Molina) and looking ready for a fight.

As mentioned, it may be the final trailer is changed or certain parts of the story will be presented differently when the official trailer comes out, but it is no wonder, given the movie's plot, that fans were expected Garfield and Maguire to turn up.
