After missing out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United this summer, Chelsea is beginning to look desperate.

The 24-year-old striker opted for a £75 million (about $98 million) move to Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho rather than rejoining Chelsea. Since then, Antonio Conte's team has been linked to a flurry of players from Europe's biggest clubs; another target seems to appear each day.

Today, the west London club has been rebuffed after offering a massive £88 million for a striker. Across London, we have the latest whispers around Alexis Sanchez's future at Arsenal, Jose Mourinho's spending at Manchester United seems far from over:

Having registered "strong and serious interest" in signing Sergio Aguero from Manchester City yesterday, according to Sky Sports, Chelsea has now had a major offer for another striker rejected. According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Conte's team has had an £88 million offer for Gonzalo Higuain rejected by Juventus.

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho is considering increasing Manchester United's offer for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier to £60 million, according to the Daily Mirror.

But United is confident of capturing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic for around £44 million after the 28-year-old Croatian pulled out of the Italian club's pre-season tour, according to the Daily Mail.

The same paper says that Arsenal's Sanchez believes he will be able to move to Manchester City for £50 million this summer, and that the north London club will cave to his demands.

Leicester City's star of the 2015 title-winning campaign Riyad Mahrez may finally have his move away from the King Power Stadium. According to the Leicester Mercury, Mahrez is willing to take a pay cut in order to sign for Italian giant Roma.

Crystal Palace is looking to sign Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on a permanent deal this summer, and has lodged a bid of £16 million, according to The Daily Telegraph.

That move may work for Arsenal as the club is looking to snip away at the fringes of its squad in order to raise funds and make space for A.S. Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, the Daily Mail suggests.
