France midfielder Blaise Matuidi could be on the verge of becoming Jose Mourinho's third major signing at Manchester United this summer.

Matuidi is currently on duty for Les Bleus at Euro 2016, but manager Didier Deschamps has given the 29-year-old time off to undergo negotiations with the Premier League club, according to Goal.

Mourinho has already brought in a defender in Eric Bailly, and an attacker in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but is yet to adjust his midfield options ahead of the new season.

The arrival of Unai Emery as Paris Saint-Germain's new head coach has thrown Matuidi's future at the Parc des Princes into doubt.

Emery has signed Grzegorz Krychowiak from former club Sevilla, and Hatem Ben Arfa from Nice, who both play in midfield, leaving uncertainty over Matuidi's place in the team.

Matuidi's compatriot Paul Pogba has also been linked with a return to Old Trafford.
