Former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway has committed to the Baylor Bears, ending a long transfer process that has seen him take visits across the nation.
Lagway was a former five-star-plus high school recruit who had major expectations in Gainesville, though he failed to deliver on his potential due to inconsistent play, including some very low points.

Despite his struggles, Lagway has flashed potential, and he has been the subject of interest in the transfer portal. The quarterback has taken visits with Florida State, Virginia, and lastly, Baylor.

Florida has already moved on at quarterback, getting a commitment from Aaron Philo, the former Georgia Tech transfer who was expected to become the starter next year, though the departure of offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner led him to follow his coach to the Gators.

Reports indicate that a meeting between Lagway and new head coach Jon Sumrall did not go well, prompting the player to enter the transfer portal.
“To me friends and teammates – thank you for the brotherhood, the memories, and the bonds we’ve built over these past two years. I will carry those moments with me for a lifetime," Lagway said in his announcement.
"To me coaches, the athletic training staff and every member of the University of Florida community – thank you for pouring into me, believing in me and showing me nothing but love and support throughout my time in Gainesville. After much prayer, reflection and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”
Lagway was ranked No. 9 among quarterbacks on the On3 portal, sitting at No. 22 overall.
With Lagway manning the offense for Baylor, head coach Dave Aranda gets the chance to focus on his defensive unit and work to build a balanced team that can contend in an open Big 12 Conference.
