The Texas Longhorns were able to keep their CFP hopes alive with a big win over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday. However, the game may very well have played out differently if not for a highly controversial call in the third quarter that went in the Longhorns favor.

With 2:22 remaining in the third quarter, Texas quarterback Arch Manning attempted a pass to convert a key third down. The pass would be tipped at the line of scrimmage coming out of Manning's hand by a Missouri defensive lineman.

The majority of the players on the field assumed that the pass attempt was incomplete. However, Texas wide receiver Emmett Mosley V wisely picked up the football, which ultimately landed beyond the line to gain.

The call on the field was ultimately that Manning had fumbled the ball forward, with the recovery from Mosley resulting in a Texas first down. This would ultimately be a consequential play in the game, as Texas would score a touchdown on this possession to tie the game, ultimately giving Texas momentum that they would ride to a 34-20 victory.

Despite the fact that the call was ultimately subject to video review from the SECh officiating crew, fans watching at home were not sold on the call being the correct one.

Given the backlash about the call on social media, the SEC put out a statement about the call shortly after the game, which Eli Hoff of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch posted on his X account.

"The ruling on the field was a fumble. In replay review it was determined there was not clear and obvious video evidence that he had firm control of the ball when the hand intentionally started forward in order to overturn the call."

Obviously, nobody will truly know how things would have played out had this play in question been deemed incomplete. But given that it was a third-and-10 for Texas, they likely would have been forced to punt. Therefore, Missouri would have likely gone into the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead.

Regardless of how Texas came away with the win, it was a monumental one for the Longhorns as they continue to pursue a CFP bid.

Texas will look to keep their three-game winning streak alive in their next matchup in Week 11 when they take to the road to face off against the LSU Tigers, while Missouri will look to rebound in Week 11 against the Georgia Bulldogs.
