During the preseason, arguably the main storyline for the New York Giants has been rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. As he continues to dazzle and make a good case for himself, he received high praise from a former head coach.

After the Giants traded into the first round to select Dart, some felt he had an opportunity to compete for the starting job in training camp. However, that was quickly laid to rest when Brian Daboll named Russell Wilson the Giants' starter early in training camp.

While starting out the year under center isn't a possibility, Dart hasn't let it get to him. He has made the most of every opportunity to showcase his talents, showing New York they are in good hands with him long-term.

Herm Edwards compares Jaxson Dart to Josh Allen

During Thursday's edition of NFL Live on ESPN, Herm Edwards joined the program to give his thoughts on the Giants' rookie QB. He is very impressed by what he's seen from Dart thus far, and feels his game mirrors reigning league MVP Josh Allen.

"If Russell Wilson struggles early out of the gates, I could see this young guy playing," Edwards said. "This guy reminds me a lot, when you watching him play, of Josh Allen. Big strong arm, accurate, mobile, runs. Coach had that guy in Buffalo, he sees it. Everybody sees it, it jumps off the film on you."

In the event that Wilson does struggle, Dart very well could be the next man up for the Giants. During camp, it was reported that the rookie jumped ahead of veteran Jameis Winston for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

Heading into the regular season, Dart is making it very hard for the Giants not to give him the reins right now. He was nothing short of impressive in the preseason, showing he can make things happen with his arms and legs.

Across three appearances, Dart completed 32 of his 47 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for over 50 yards, racking up a rushing touchdown in the process.

As of now, the Giants remain committed to Wilson being their guy to open the year. That said, given that he is the franchise's future at QB, it's likely Dart sees the field at some point during the 2025 campaign.
