Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has become a familiar face and voice during CBS’s NFL broadcasts during the regular season and playoffs.
With the postseason underway, Romo called the recent Buffalo Bills versus Jacksonville Jaguars game on CBS alongside his partner in the booth, Jim Nantz. However, Romo's performance on the call wasn't up to par, with many fans seemingly criticizing him during the event.
While part of an interview by SiriusXM’s Adam Schein, Romo spoke about his issues during the recent Wild Card game, and seemingly responded to the online chatter or negative reactions over his calls. He admitted to being under the weather, along with others from the CBS crew working on the game.

“Yeah, we had a bunch of guys sick. We were just grinding through it, but you’re not gonna miss a playoff game, it’s too much fun,” Romo told Schein.
On Sunday, more than a few critics vented on social media regarding Romo's performance in the booth during the Bills-Jaguars clash.
"What’s amazing is that the first 3 years of Tony Romo is one of my favorite announcers of all time and then all of a sudden he become AWFUL," one commenter wrote.
"Tony romo is the most annoying broadcaster in nfl. I might listen to this on mute. A quarter in I’m annoyed lol," another X commenter said.
"Please @NFL don’t give the #Broncos Tony Romo," a commenter begged, tagging the league on X.
Criticism of Romo's performance also arrived from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, a media insider. While speaking on the “Marchand Sports Media” podcast, he suggested “the problem for Romo is he doesn’t appear as if he does the homework" for the games.
Does it bother the former NFL player? During Schein's interview, Romo indicated he pays attention to both the "highs" and "lows" associated with his commentary position, as it's part of sports.
"I think anytime you're in a position like we are, we're on the air for three-and-a-half hours, you're always trying to do the best you can in everything. There's always gonna be moments where there's great stuff and then other stuff, it's just part of being in your position," he said on the SiriusXM interview.
"You just go back to work, and you do a great job. That's the fun part about this, it's sports, and it makes it fun. We're just trying to make everyone enjoy the show, learn a little bit, and have a great time. So, to me, it's what makes sports amazing, it's fun," Romo said.
The former Cowboys quarterback returns to the booth for Saturday's AFC Divisional Game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos. The winner moves on to play the winner of the Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots game in the AFC Championship.
While Romo may receive lots of criticism, other former quarterbacks, including multi-time Super Bowl winners Phil Simms and the legendary Tom Brady, also receive their share.
However, Brady recently went viral during his call of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Francisco 49ers game, receiving praise for his explanation of how a quarterback should adjust a throw in windy conditions.
