'Super Smash Bros.' Switch Will be Playable at E3 2018, but You'll Need to Reserve First

Fans looking to attend E3 2018 to play one of Nintendo's most anticipated Switch games will have to register ahead of the show. Nintendo announced on Wednesday fans will need to reserve play slots to play Super Smash Bros. for Switch before June's show.

If you've ever visited Nintendo's E3 booth, it's usually the most packed of the entire show. To shorten the time spent waiting line to play Super Smash Bros. Switch, fans will need to register with the E3 organizers.

Here's how the reservation system for the Super Smash Bros . game is going to work:

  • Anyone who registers for E3 2018 by May 31 will receive an email from E3 organizers on June 5 with details about how to reserve one electronic ticket to play the game (available while time slots last). Attendees should make sure to add e3expo@e3expo.com to their safe sender lists so the email doesn't get lost in their junk folders.
  • Signing up to play the game ahead of time is mandatory. No on-site registration will be available.
  • Tickets will be in the form of QR Code patterns that can be stored on a smartphone or printed out.
  • For more details about ticketing, visit https://e3.nintendo.com/attendee-faq for continuing updates.
  • Reservations will not be taken for any other games at Nintendo's booth, which will be available to play on a first-come, first-served basis.

"We're always looking to improve the ways people can maximize the fun they have with Nintendo at E3," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing said in a press release. "This year our focus is on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game, and we want as many people as possible to give it a try."

Nintendo will showcase other games at E3 2018, so registering a time slot to play Super Smash Bros. will maximize your time at the company's booth. Nintendo will also give out exclusive Nintendo Switch pins to random fans who bring their console with them to the show.

It's not clear what Nintendo will bring to E3 2018 besides Super Smash Bros., but expect games like Mario Tennis Aces and the recently released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to be present. Nintendo's video presentation will stream on Tuesday, June 12 at 12 p.m. EDT before the convention center opens, so fans will have a clearer idea of what will be playable in Nintendo's booth.
