There Have Already Been 17 Mass Shootings in the Week Since Uvalde

It's been exactly a week since the deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two adults were killed by a teenage gunman. In these last seven days, there have been 17 new mass shootings across the country, according to the independent research group Gun Violence Archive.

That's about 2.4 mass shootings a day in a country that has not yet stopped grieving for the victims of the tragedy in Uvalde and the shooting in Buffalo, New York on May 14. There have been a total of 228 mass shootings in the United States since the beginning of the year, 27 of which took place in schools.

Wednesday, May 25

On Wednesday, four people were shot in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while on their way to a prom party. No one was killed, but all four people were injured. One 19-year-old boy was reportedly in critical conditions, according to CBS.

Friday, May 27

In Stanwood, Michigan, three siblings and their mother were shot and killed on Friday. Investigators believe the man who shot the four family members was their father/husband. The children were aged 3, 4, and 6 years old.

On the same day, a shooting at a graduation party in Anniston, Alabama, attended by over 150 people aged 14 to 20 left six people hurt. No one was killed, according to the Anniston Police Department.

"The impulse to use firearms by the young people in our society is a tragedy and a shame," wrote the Anniston PD on Facebook. "Lives are fragile and precious. This is not a video game or movie. You don't get to respawn. The other person doesn't get another chance to play again."

Saturday, May 28

Five shootings took place on Saturday. In Memphis, Tennessee, four people were shot and injured. A suspect, a convicted felon, was arrested by Memphis police.

In Colorado Springs, Colorado, one man was killed and three women were injured in a shooting at a local bar.

In Fresno, California, one man was killed and three teenagers were injured during a shooting at Radio Park. A firearm was found at the scene, but no suspect has yet been brought to custody.

In Malabar, Florida, a shooting left four teenagers aged 15 to 18 injured as gunfire broke out between two men attending a house party on Saturday night.

In downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, six teenagers aged 15 were shot and injured as a result of two groups confronting each other, local news station WDEF reported. Two victims were in critical condition.

Sunday, May 29

On Sunday, two mass shootings took place in Chicago, Illinois. One left five people seriously injured as a fight broke out on the city's West Side. A second shooting at West Humboldt Park on Sunday night left one man dead and four others, including the suspect, injured.

On the same day, the Henderson Police Department in Henderson, Nevada, reported a shooting taking place at about 11:50 a.m. between members or affiliates of rival Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs: the Hells Angels and the Vagos Motorcycle Club. No one was killed, but seven people were injured.

One person was killed and three were injured in Merced County, California, after a shooting at a party in the Beachwood area of the city. In Taft, Oklahoma, one teenager was killed and seven were injured during a Memorial Day festival.

A shooting in Houston, Texas, left four people injured, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. In Phoenix, Arizona, one person was killed and five other teens were injured at a late-night house party, local news station KPNX reported.

Monday, May 30

A Monday shooting in Benton Harbor, Michigan, left one person killed and six injured as a fight reportedly broke out at Ajay's Lounge, a bar on Pipestone Street, over a ticketed event scheduled at the venue. A 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, ABC reported.

On the same day, a mass shooting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, left two killed and two others injured at a Memorial Day party in the Port Richmond neighborhood, FOX 29 reported.
