TikTok Video of White Woman's Racist Tirade Against Black Store Manager Viewed Over 2M Times

A video of white female customer at a Ross clothing store going off on a racist tirade at a Black female employee has gone viral on TikTok—garnering well over 2 million views on the social media platform.

In the clip, the white woman can be seen yelling in the face of the Black female employee—who the poster identified as the manager of the store—near the entrance doors. The angry customer is not wearing a mask, although other customers appearing in the video are not either and it's not clear whether or not masks were required. The manager is wearing a mask, as are some others in the clip.

The white woman can be heard calling the manager a "Black b****" and a "monkey." She also bizarrely describes the Black employee as being "racist."

From the clip, it's unclear what led to the woman's angry rant.

"You're a motherf****ing b*** is what you are," the white customer yells.

"Please leave," the manager responds calmly.

"Oh I'm leaving," the white woman says.

"Please leave. I'm asking nicely," the Ross employee replies.

"You f***ing no good b****," the white woman adds. She then goes and yells in the manager's face again. "Call it racism! B****, you're more racist than [inaudible]."

The employee continues to remain calm as the white woman heads to the door, screaming "F*** you, you f***ing Black b****" again.

"OK, that doesn't bother me," the manager responds calmly. "OK, have a good day," she adds.

The calm response appears to frustrate the white woman even more. She has almost left the store, but then returns abruptly to yell more racist insults.

She yells something about "sitting on the porch like a f***ing monkey" and calls the manager a "whore." The white woman then finally leaves as the Black manager stands calmly by the door, watching her storm away.

The woman who posted the video captioned the clip: "Karen tests my sister [hand waving emoji] the MANAGER. seek help boo #karen #lol#bye."

Newsweek reached out to Ross for comment on the incident, but did not immediately receive a response. The location of the store where the event took place is unknown.

Videos and reports of people saying racist things or acting in a racist manner routinely go viral on social media platforms, such as TikTok, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. In the wake of massive Black Lives Matter demonstrations in 2020, similar incidents have drawn substantial attention online as people of color draw attention to the racism and insults they are subjected to.

Survey results released by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll in mid-May show that 42 percent of Americans believe race relations have worsened over the past year. A poll carried out by the news organization a year prior shows that two-thirds of Americans believe former President Donald Trump worsened race relations in the country.
