Woman Praised For Dropping Boyfriend and His Daughter 800 Miles From Home

A woman went viral after revealing she left her boyfriend and his 17-year-old daughter at a rental car company more than 800 miles away from home.

The anonymous woman, known only as u/719917710, posted about the situation in Reddit's popular "Am I The A**hole" forum where it received more than 14,200 upvotes and 1,300 comments from supportive users calling out her boyfriend for ruining a family trip.

In the post titled "AITA for dropping him and his daughter off at a rental car place states away from home?" the woman, 27, explained that she has been seeing a man named Dave, 44, for the past three years.

The woman said she has two sons, a nine-year-old and a six-year-old, and that Dave has a daughter, Ann.

In the post, the woman explained that about three months ago she booked a road trip for her and her sons. She said the trip consisted of 26 hours of driving with many stops in between.

Traveling with younger children can already be stressful, but tacking along more than 20 hours in a car and bored kids can make it more of a hassle than a fun road trip.

One major stressor for parents traveling with their kids is finding clean restrooms and food places every few hours along the way. According to data collected by IPSOS, approximately 57 percent of parents felt stressed about where they were going to stop during their trip.

"This is the first time I've ever been financially able to do much of anything with my children so I went all out. Planned to stop at every place they had ever asked me to go, basically. I was beyond excited to surprise them with this trip. We got home 4 nights ago."

She explained that a week before leaving for the trip, Dave decided he wanted to join and bring his daughter as a "bonding experience." She also said that she and Dave do not live together and that his daughter doesn't like her because she is "boring."

"I didnt really want either of them to go but thought what the hell, why not," the post read. "This could be good for us. Boy was I f***ing wrong."

She explained that from the minute Ann got into her car she started complaining about her sons being "too annoying" and that they needed to "quiet the f**k down and chill out." She also said Ann complained that the car was "too crowded," "too loud," and that they were making "too many stops."

After nine hours of driving, the group arrived in Pennsylvania. At about 3 p.m. Dave asked if he could take Ann for a drive because she was "getting irritated with the kids."

She told Dave to make it a quick drive because she still needed to go shopping for dinner supplies.

"3 hours later he shows back up. Him and Ann went out to eat," the post read. "So I make a comment saying 'you didnt think we wanted to eat too?' And Ann snaps back with 'I dont think we asked.'"

In the post, the woman said that she snapped on Ann because she had been dealing with these comments since the trip began. She also said part of her wanted to end the trip early because Dave told her sons to quiet down on behalf of Ann.

"At this point I havent done anything with my kids because the queen would have a fit if we pulled off anywhere AND Dave at this point basically refused to let me drive despite me arguing. IN MY CAR," the post read. "So I snapped, told him to pull the f**k over. When he finally does, I drive to the nearest car rental and tell them to get the f**k out of my car."

She said both Dave and Ann flipped out on her. Ann said she wouldn't get in a car with "bed bugs." Dave said he didn't have the money for a rental car because he spent more than $1,500 on Ann in four days.

"So I say 'I dont believe I f*****g asked.' And take off. They were close to 800 miles from home," the post concluded. "It took them 4 days to get home due to lack of money and needing to borrow. I'm being told I'm a selfish c**t. AITA?"

In the comments section, the woman said she broke up with Dave and that her family had a "fantastic time" without him and his daughter. She also said she extended the trip by a few days.

The post quickly amassed more than 1,400 comments, with many users expressing their support for the woman and calling Dave and Ann out on their behavior.

"NTA. Time to stop seeing Dave. They should have thought about their behaviour before hijacking your trip and being rude to both you and your boys," one user commented. "I hope the rest of the trip was enjoyable with your boys."

"Dan is 44 years old, he should be perfectly capable of getting himself and his daughter home or he should just not make vacations miserable as a team with her," another user wrote. "You dropped them at a car rental and not the middle of nowhere, so whatever."
