Woman Reveals Speakeasy Hidden Beneath Her Kitchen Island

The COVID pandemic has forced people to spend more time indoors than ever before. This can soon get boring, particularly if you live in a small apartment.

Luckily, one woman isn't short of entertainment at home, after revealing a speakeasy hidden beneath her kitchen.

The woman, called theresapizzaaa on TikTok, shared a clip to her account on May 16, which has since been watched more than 19 million times.

Theresa captioned the video: "When I'm bored and remember I have a speakeasy under my kitchen island."

Speakeasies became popular in the 1920s after the introduction of prohibition. Underground bars popped up across the country serving illegal liquor, and were often hidden inside other venues or required passwords to enter.

The video starts with Theresa sitting on a chair, before she gets up and starts walking—a camera following her every move—demonstrating how big the building above the speakeasy is.

She walks down a long wooden-floored hallway, with at least two doors on each side, and goes down the stairs in the sprawling property.

Theresa heads to a vast kitchen before stopping at the long kitchen island and pushing the worktop along. She opens the cupboard doors underneath to reveal a set of stairs.

Theresa has to duck as she descends the staircase, which even has artwork hanging on the walls.

She emerges into a room with tall ceilings that has cases of what appear to be wine stacked against the wall.

But it doesn't end there, as she opens a door leading to another room before pushing a bookcase open to reveal yet another corridor.

Theresa ducks and walks through, revealing a fully stocked bar, with tables, chairs, chandeliers and quirky décor.

There even appear to be customers—two women sitting at the bar—suggesting it could be a working establishment.

Theresa's bio now reads, "house tour coming soon," presumably in response to the interest in her home.

Responding to TikTok users' questions about the building, Theresa said "house built in the 1800s," but did not reveal its location.

Newsweek has contacted the video uploader for comment.

Thousands of TikTok users commented on the video, with many people comparing the property to the opulent home of Riverdale character Veronica Lodge.

Ecosia wrote: "You have an entire house under your house."

Lindsay Miller joked: "What in the Riverdale."

K quipped: "She really said Veronica from Riverdale."

SparksofJoy thought: "I wouldn't share this, it's a great hiding space just in case."

TikToker Kayla joked: "No one is ever going to rob that."

Nicky Woods asked: "How you got a full bar and dining room under your kitchen's island."

Katie Bulmer simply wrote: "I have so many questions. This is crazy."
