Breakups can be difficult for everyone involved as lifestyles and routines change. Unfortunately, this can also affect pets.
TikTok user @madmoxxii posted a video earlier this week explaining what her ex's orange cat, Kit, experienced after the relationship between the two ended. Her ex moved across the country and left the feline behind. Despite Kit being her ex's cat, she kept him and gave him a loving home, but that wasn't enough to cure his broken heart.
For nearly six months post-breakup and after his owner "left," Kit stopped being social. He lost weight and would hide. He would only come around at meals, @madmoxxii said.

"It was scary," she told Newsweek via TikTok. "I took him to the vet just for them to tell me that it was normal and he'd probably snap out of it eventually."
She tried everything to help him heal—buying new toys and calming treats, bringing his favorite cat tree into the living room. She thought he could have his own space in the cat tree while being surrounded by others. Being food-motivated, she would give him wet food and spend time petting him while he ate.
However, nothing worked. He couldn't understand why his person left and never returned. He mourned the life he once had with no explanation for the change.
"For a second I thought about trying to find him a new home, but I was so worried that it would make it worse instead of better," she said. "In the end, I'm glad I ended up with him. I can't picture my house without him."
Kit finally came around after a few months of depression. She said she was unsure what helped him snap out of his funk, but he did and started showing positive signs. The TikTok video explained he's happy, healthy, sweet and cuddly now. He even comes around to strangers and lets them pet him.
A follow-up video informed viewers that Kit isn't lonely in the house. Her other cat and dog keep him company, especially the feline. They snuggle constantly and will, sometimes, let the dog on the bed with them.
