Zarude Coming to 'Pokémon Sword and Shield' in December; Here's How to Get New Mythical

Update: Some trainers didn't receive the Pokemon Newsletter. Find out how to get your code, here.

Original Story

Zarude, the new Mythical Pokémon of the Galar region, is finally becoming available in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Originally announced back on Pokémon Day in February, Zarude was the focus of the 23rd animated Pokémon film that was set to release in theaters in Japan over the summer. However, the global pandemic continued to push back the film and those who pre-ordered tickets were set to claim Zarude and a Shiny Celebi for their Sword and Shield games.

The Pokémon Company eventually released Zarude for those who pre-ordered tickets although the film wasn't released in theaters and now the Pokémon is ready to come to the rest of the world in December.

HOW TO GET ZARUDE IN POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD

To get your very own Zarude, trainers simply have to sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club Newsletter and opt in for email notifications by November 20. If you already signed up for the newsletter, you won't have anything to do except for wait for the code to appear in your email.

The Pokémon Company states that the code for Zarude should arrive on December 11.

Zarude will come at Level 60 with the moves Close Combat, Power Whip, Swagger and Snarl. The Grass and Dark-type Pokémon has the ability Leaf Guard, which prevents it from being inflicted by status effects in extreme sunlight, and has a signature move called Jungle Healing.

This status move will heal Zarude and your partner in double battles. Jungle Healing will also cure Zarude and your partner of any status effects.

POKEMON THE MOVIE: SECRETS OF THE JUNGLE

The distribution of Mythical or Legendary Pokémon usually coincide with the release of a brand new movie.

Since Zarude is being distributed for Sword and Shield, the film it stars in is not far behind. The Pokémon Company confirmed that the 23rd Pokémon animated film will release in 2021. No hard release date was given and no method of watching it was given, but we'll be sure to update once we learn more.

In the meantime, here's the synopsis for Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle:

"Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle tells the story of Koko, a young boy raised by Pokémon, and the creation of a new bond between humans and Pokémon. Deep in the jungle, far from any human settlement, is the Forest of Okoya—a Pokémon paradise forbidden to outsiders and protected by a strict code of rules. In this jungle lives Koko, a human boy who has been raised as a Pokémon by the Mythical Pokémon Zarude. Koko has grown up never doubting that he is a Pokémon. But one day, a chance meeting with Ash and Pikachu leaves Koko with his first human friend. Is he truly a Pokémon? Or is he, in fact, a human? When danger threatens the Forest of Okoya, the bonds between Pokémon and human—as well as the love between parent and child—will be put to the test."
