'9-1-1' Season 5: Will There Be Another Season?

9-1-1 is at the end of another season, with the season finale airing on Fox on Monday, May 24. Going into this finale, which will see a sniper targeting the 118 team, the show is the most-watched scripted show on Fox, which bodes well for fans hoping to be able to watch Season 5.

Will there be another season of 9-1-1?

Those fans should rest easy—the show has already been renewed for Season 5. Fox broke the news in mid-May, at the same time that its spin-off show Lone Star was renewed for Season 3.

Athena Grant actor and Oscar nominee Angela Bassett was among those celebrating the news of the renewal. On May 17, when 9-1-1 Season 5 was announced, she tweeted, "Today is a great day! #911onFOX."

The renewal should come as no surprise for those who have been following the ratings of this season. Per TV Series Finale, the show has managed an average audience of 6.5 million viewers, which is just five percent less than the audience it had for its last season. And though the show had a 24 percent drop-off among the 18 to 49 demographic, it still has a 1.05 rating, a high rating that means about one percent of total TV viewers in that demographic watch the show.

Those ratings make it the most-watched scripted show on Fox, and the second most-watched overall behind the fall season of The Masked Singer. Its demographic ratings makes it the third most-watched season on Fox in total, behind The Masked Singer and I Can See Your Voice.

Speaking to Hello!, Buck actor Oliver Stark hinted that the events of the current season finale will have seismic impacts on Season 5. He said, "the finale will take things in a direction I don't think anyone will see coming, and will set things up for the future of 9-1-1 in a whole new way."

Per Peter Krause's comments to TV Insider, one or more cast members may not be returning to the show for Season 5 as the sniper continues targeting the team. He said, "I can't say, but I can say that the finale episode is action-packed and that the sniper is not stopped before he inflicts more damage."

The exact release date for 9-1-1 Season 5 has not been revealed, though Fox has confirmed it will be back in the fall. As such, a September 2021 release seems likely for the show.

What we do know is that the show will keep its same timeslot on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on Fox. There will be some change, however, on the rest of Monday night. Previously, the show shared the night with Lone Star, but the new season of that is being held for 2022. Instead, the show will be followed by The Big Leap, a musical comedy-drama about a group of down-on-their-luck characters who enter a ballet-themed reality show.

The 9-1-1 Season 4 finale airs Monday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on Fox. All episodes so far are streaming now on Hulu.
