Why Did Paloma Leave 'Big Brother' 2022? Contestant Walks Out in Shock Exit

Big Brother season 24's Paloma Aguilar has quit the show after just a week in the house.

The houseguest joined the series as an original cast member on the 2022 edition of the long-running CBS hit, but on the first eviction night of the season on Thursday, July 14, host Julie Chen Moonves confirmed that the 22-year-old interior designer from San Marcos, California, had made a shock exit.

Chen Moonves began the episode by stating that viewers could be in for an unusual first eviction, emphasizing the show's "expect the unexpected" motto. She also confirmed that one houseguest had gone and that it would bring a shock change to the night's proceedings.

The twist she was referring to was later revealed to be Paloma's early departure.

So, why did Paloma leave Big Brother? What did her withdrawal mean for the first eviction? Newsweek has everything you need to know about her Big Brother 2022 exit.

Why Did Paloma Leave?

Before the news that Paloma had left the Big Brother house was confirmed, viewers were shown footage of Paloma discussing her struggles with anxiety inside the house. She also stated she was struggling to sleep. Paloma's fellow houseguests were seen discussing their concerns for her in the episode.

Eventually, Paloma entered the Diary Room and Head of Household Daniel Durston later called everyone to the living room to read a note he had been given by the show's production team.

"Due to a personal matter, Paloma will no longer be continuing in the Big Brother game," he read to his co-stars. "She wanted to pass along that she loves you all and wishes you all the best."

Newsweek has contacted CBS for further comment.

Who Got Voted Off Big Brother 2022?

While viewers never got to find out who should have been evicted, Chen Moonves did announce the result of the public vote for the Backstage Pass holders.

Earlier in the season Paloma, Alyssa Snider and Brittany Hoopes had been chosen by Joe "Pooch" Pucciarelli as the holders of Backstage Passes. The public were then asked to vote to save one of the three—although it was never revealed what they were actually saving them from. It was revealed on the July 14 episode that Brittany had received the most votes from viewers.

The mysterious Backstage Pass twist was also finally revealed as it was explained that the Backstage Pass holders who didn't win the public vote, so Alyssa and Paloma, would have had to face off with the Houseguests up for eviction, Taylor and Terrance. With Paloma going home, however, they no longer had ti undergo this battle, but hopefully next week we will see the new twist come into play.

Big Brother continues on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on CBS.
