'Cobra Kai': Season 4 Expected to Start Shooting Today

Cobra Kai Season 4 is reportedly due to start filming on Wednesday, January 20 in Atlanta, Georgia, meaning that the latest set of episodes of the Netflix show could be coming this year.

The production start date for Cobra Kai Season 4 was revealed by trade publication ProductionWeekly, which listed that the show would shoot from January 20 to April 15.

Though Netflix has not confirmed that the show has gone into production, and none of the major cast members have released social media posts from the set, there are a number of clear indications that filming is about to begin on the first season of The Karate Kid spin-off actually filmed for Netflix—Seasons 1 to 3 were filmed while the show was airing on YouTube (though Season 3 ended up at Netflix instead.)

The fact that production is about to begin on Cobra Kai 4 was confirmed by actor William Lex Ham, who has previously appeared on shows like Blue Bloods and The Mysteries of Laura. The actor tweeted on January 19: "Heading back to Atlanta bc I booked a role on Netflix's Cobra Kai!

"Much love to the production's health and safety team for their rigorous COVID protocols."

Last week, the show released a casting call for actors in Atlanta. Project Casting currently features a call-out for skateboarding teens for the new season. Per the casting call, these teens need to take a COVID-19 test on January 22 to take part, which suggests they will be on set shortly after getting the results. Previous casting calls on the site, meanwhile, were looking for actors for the end of January.

Another casting call, meanwhile, seems to hint that a major set piece will be set in a sushi restaurant, as the crew are looking for people to play waitstaff, sushi chefs and customers. These actors have to have a COVID test on January 20. The call also notes that "you will need to quarantine yourself between 1/18 - 1/22," suggesting these actors will be on set this week.

Ralph Macchio and William Zabka in 'Cobra Kai,' Season 4 of which is expected to start filming in January 2021. Netflix

Season 4 of Cobra Kai was set up by the Season 3 finale, which saw John Kreese (played by Martin Kove) offer a deal to Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) that he would leave town if their students could beat his at the All-Valley Karate tournament.

That finale also hinted at the return of Karate Kid character Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) after Kreese appeared to call him on the phone.

Speaking about when Cobra Kai Season 4 would start filming on Twitter, showrunner Jon Hurwitz said in October: "There are initial plans to film Season 4. Other shows have been filming with strict Covid protocols and everyone is learning from their experiences. Covid shouldn't have an impact on the story we're telling. We just need to find safe ways to tell that story."

Cobra Kai Season 4 is coming soon to Netflix.
