Dog 'Sits and Watches Sunset' in Same Spot Every Night - and It's Magical

A golden retriever's adorable habit of sitting in the same spot every evening to watch the sun go down has got people feeling emotional.

Dogs often imitate their human companions. In a 2010 study conducted at the University of Vienna, scientists discovered that dogs have a tendency to copy the behavior and body movements of the people they come into regular contact with.

That conclusion was reached after researchers conducted experiments involving 10 adult dogs and their owners. Each canine was taught how to open a sliding door using their head or paws after watching their human companions crouch down and complete the same task.

The dogs were then split into two groups with half receiving an edible reward if they copied their human owner and the others only receiving a reward if they did not. What scientists found was that, regardless of whether they received a treat, all of the dogs were eager to imitate pet owners.

Perhaps that's what's motivating the golden retriever featured in the video uploaded to TikTok by Katelyn Nassar. In the clip, the unashamedly fluffy canine can be seen looking thoughtfully off into the distance as the sun descends down behind the trees and nearby hills. The footage can be watched here.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the dog may have previously seen Nassar in a similar pose and, after trying it out for himself, has taken it up as part of his daily routine.

Whatever the case may be, the clip makes for powerful viewing with Nassar posting the video online alongside a caption declaring: "This will make me emotional till the day I die."

The contemplative footage certainly appears to have found a captive audience, with the clip amassing more than 4 million views already and a glut of comments from similarly enchanted pet lovers.

Danamomof3ms declared: "This pup is an old soul" with amiddaybreak writing: "He enjoys the little things in life more than most humans."

Sanscollier said: "This is the most beautiful TikTok I've ever seen" with Ladyandtheblues commenting: "I just wanna sit next to him."

Martin Ford called the canine "a truly deep thinking romantic. Megan Lawson, meanwhile, was left feeling rather tearful by it all, writing: "I'm crying...this is perfect."

Elsewhere, Oskars Sumkis urged Nassar to "put a seat there for both of you to sit and enjoy the sunset together."

The golden retriever's owner duly obliged, posting a follow-up video online showing the pair of them taking in the scene together. That clip can be viewed here.
