Police in New York City's Upper East Side are hunting for a man that allegedly broke into a woman's apartment and licked and kissed her face early on Sunday morning.

The 28-year-old victim told police she was asleep in her bed when she awoke to a man licking her face, local station ABC 7 reported. She tackled the man, who fled the scene, before reporting the incident to police around 6.30 a.m.

On Wednesday, the New York Police Department's 19th Precinct posted footage to Twitter of what it described as a suspect in a burglary.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department (NYPD) told Newsweek officers are searching for "a dark-skinned male, balding, with a beard and mustache; last seen wearing a dark colored jacket and blue jeans." The suspect is thought to have entered the apartment in a five-story walkup through an unlocked front door. According to ABC 7, the building entrance was locked.

Neighbor Elexis Ellis told ABC 7: "I thought it was a robbery, and then she was like, 'no, actually there was this guy in my bed.' She grabbed him and threw him out. I think I would have been absolutely terrified. She seemed more disgusted."

Other locals told the station they were shocked by the incident. "Not good, this is a great neighborhood and the 19th Precinct is great, I'm surprised," one neighbor said.

Another added: "I haven't heard about this…I would have thought they'd at least send a notice to everyone that lives in the building."

Per the NYPD, anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the department's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Members of the public can submit tips online www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or to the NYPDTips Twitter handle. To submit a tip by text, message 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

In other strange crime news, a California man was spotted setting multiple small fires in and around a Walmart in an apparent attempt to avoid work. The suspect later told police he did not want to attend his shift at the store on Sunday night.

Elsewhere in the Golden State, police recently arrested a man who allegedly rode a horse on a highway and posted photos of the drunken episode to social media. "On Sunday, officer Pate responded to a suspected DUI rider on SR-152 at College Rd. Yes, we did say rider," read a local patrol's Instagram post.

Meanwhile in Florida, an almost nude cyclist made headlines in early March for riding his bike on a highway. According to locals on social media, the man clad only in underwear is a local feature on the Miami road. Indeed, footage of the cyclist also gained traction online last summer.
