Bill Clinton Bigger Epstein Scandal Than Prince Andrew Says Royal Author

Prince Andrew's relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein "is a distraction" from claims about Bill Clinton, an outspoken royal author has claimed.

Epstein, who died in jail in 2019, was accused of trafficking a 17-year-old Virginia Roberts Giuffre and forcing her to have sex with the Duke of York—a claim Andrew denies.

Now Lady Colin Campbell, a royal author and former reality TV contestant, has claimed in a television interview that the standoff between Andrew and the Department of Justice last summer was intended to protect former President Clinton.

The exchange took place on GB News, a new British channel with an editorial charter that states: "We do not shy away from controversial issues."

Campbell, a regular critic of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, was asked whether Queen Elizabeth II's third child had caused more damage to the royal family than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Campbell said: "Let's remember that President Bill Clinton, who is a far bigger name and a far heavier hitter on the world stage than Prince Andrew, was a far greater friend [of Epstein's] and for far longer than Prince Andrew.

"Just to put things in proportion, the New York attorney general has been going after Prince Andrew because they are effectively political appointees in America. Its not like here where an attorney general is a legal entity, in there it's not. And they're playing politics and Prince Andrew is to a large extent a distraction so that Bill Clinton will actually be kept out of the frame."

Newsweek contacted the DOJ for comment.

Campbell also disputed the meaning of the term pedophile, suggesting instead that Epstein was an "ephebophile" with an interest in adolescent girls.

Host Dan Wootton challenged the outspoken celebrity, saying: "He was a pedophile."

The DOJ was involved in a war of words with Prince Andrew last summer over whether and how he would give evidence to the FBI investigation into Epstein's crimes.

Andrew has denied having had sex with Giuffre and his team said he was being treated as a witness rather than a target.

Giuffre has also said in a deposition that Clinton went to Epstein's private island with "two young girls," a claim the former president denies.

Giuffre said in a 2016 deposition: "You know, I remember asking Jeffrey what's Bill Clinton doing here [on Epstein's island] kind of thing, and he laughed it off and said, 'Well he owes me favors.'"

She added: "He never told me what favors they were. I never knew. I didn't know if he was serious. It was just a joke... He told me a long time ago that everyone owes him favors. They're all in each other's pockets."

She also said she was made to have sex with Andrew three times in London, New York and on the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Angel Ureña, Clinton's spokesperson, said in a statement to Newsweek: "He's not spoken to Epstein in well over a decade, and has never been to Little St. James Island, Epstein's ranch in New Mexico, or his residence in Florida."

Prince Andrew's lawyers, Blackfords, said in a statement last year: "As the public record indicates the DOJ has been actively investigating Mr. Epstein and other targets for more than 16 years, yet the first time they requested the Duke's help was on 2nd January 2020.

"Importantly, the DOJ advised us that the Duke is not and has never been a 'target' of their criminal investigations into Epstein and that they sought his confidential, voluntary co-operation."

The prince told Emily Maitlis: "I can tell you categorically I don't remember meeting her at all. I do not remember a photograph being taken and I've said consistently and frequently that we never had any sort of sexual contact whatever."
