'Jeopardy!': Who is the Next Guest Host After Mayim Bialik?

Jeopardy! is saying goodbye to the latest in its rolling roster of guest hosts, with Mayim Bialik hosting her final episode of the game show on Friday, June 11.

Since the death of Alex Trebek last year, the show has seen hosts like Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper and Ken Jennings taking his place, and when the show returns next week a new face will be joining them.

Who is the next Jeopardy! guest host?

On June 14, Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is set to become the 10th guest host of Jeopardy!

NBC News' chief legal correspondent will host the show from June 14 to June 25. As with the guest hosts before her, Jeopardy! is making a donation in Guthrie's name to a charity of her choice for her time on the show. Her charity of choice is The Bowery Mission, which serves the homeless and hungry in New York.

After Guthrie, just six guest hosts remain. Their episodes will air on the following dates:

  • George Stephanopoulos: July 12 - 16
  • Robin Roberts: July 19 - 23
  • LeVar Burton: July 26 - 30
  • David Faber: August 2 - 6
  • Joe Buck: August 9 -13

The show's producer (and second guest host) Mike Richards has previously said that some of the hosts' runs are being considered as auditions, while others are just hosting as fans of the show and as a tribute to Trebek.

Guthrie seems to be in the latter camp. In a People interview, she hinted she was not interested in taking over the gig next season. She said "I'm doing a couple of weeks. I loved it. I had so much fun, but I have a day job."

Asked who she thinks should get the job, she said: "Stepping into Alex's shoes won't be easy, but I think they've got some really good candidates. I'm not going to name names."

As Guthrie takes to the podium, Bialik's time comes to an end. In her own People interview, The Big Bang Theory actor, who also has a PhD in neuroscience, paid tribute to the show. She said, "this is such an iconic and unbelievable piece of our collective culture, to be considered to be part of it really in any way, it's an immense honor.

"Especially for someone who's dedicated so much of my life to academia to knowing things and to being able to communicate things."

In a Yahoo! article ranking the guest hosts so far, Bialik came fourth, behind the three guest hosts with previous experience of the game: Tournament of Champions host (and former winner) Buzzy Cohen, so-called Jeopardy! 'GOAT' Ken Jennings and producer Mike Richards.

The last major poll of Jeopardy fans about who should be the permanent host was conducted by Civic Science at the end of May, before Bialik's stint as host. It has Jennings as the favorite at 22 percent, Aaron Rodgers at 16 percent and Cohen and Richards at 4 percent. More than half of those who responded, however, said they were still not sure who they wanted to get the job.

Bookies.com also conducted a ranking around the same time that looked at each host's social engagement, viewer sentiment, TV rating and media coverage. It reached similar conclusions, with Jennings leading the rankings, followed by Rodgers, Richards and Whitaker.
