Kamala Harris Wishes Donald Trump a 'Full and Speedy' Recovery From COVID

Vice presidential candidate Kamal Harris has joined Joe Biden in wishing President Donald Trump and the first lady Melania a "full and speedy recovery" after the pair tested positive for COVID-19.

"Doug and I join Joe Biden and Dr. Biden in wishing President Trump and the First Lady a full and speedy recovery," Harris said in a tweet.

"We're keeping them and the entire Trump family in our thoughts."

The president announced that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for Covid-19 on the early house of Friday and would quarantine at the White House.

Both were tested after Trump confirmed that Hope Hicks, who travelled with Trump to numerous events this week including the presidential debate, had a positive result in her test for the illness.

Joe Biden has also sent the president his support in recovering on Twitter, saying: "Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery.

"We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family," he wrote.

The two campaigns have frequently disagreed on a number of issues around coronavirus response.

One of them is mask-wearing. On the presidential debate on Tuesday, Trump made a point of saying that he does not wear a mask as much as Joe Biden does.

"I don't have, I don't wear a mask like him. Every time you see him, he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from him, and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen," the president said.

On Wednesday, Harris posted a tweet saying that "wearing a mask isn't just the right thing to do, it's patriotic".

Harris herself has been reported to have been tested on Thursday as part of the Biden-harris campaign's routine testing, and tested negative for COVID-19.

A number of world leaders have also expressed their well-wishes to the president.

The Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, whom Trump visited earlier this year, was among the first to tweet his support: "Wishing my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a quick recovery and good health," he wrote.

The president of the European Council, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British prime minister Boris Johnson also tweeted their support for Trump.
