Daniel Sturridge was described as “unbelievable” by Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, after the striker played a pivotal role in propelling the club into the final of the Europa League.

Sturridge scored the second goal of a 3-0 win over Villarreal at Anfield on Thursday in the second leg of the semi-final, overcoming a 1-0 defeat in the first leg the week before.

The victory will see Klopp, who took over the reins at Anfield from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015, take Liverpool to the final against Sevilla, the holders, on May 18.

The German described his side’s performances as “emotional and smart.”

“It was a great game,” he said, “and you all see now when Daniel Sturridge is fit, he is an unbelievable striker. Everybody knows this but even he knows this.

“I knew about his quality even before I came here. Now, I know even better.”
