Biden Celebrates Latest Inflation Report

After a better-than-expected showing for Democrats in the midterms, President Joe Biden is also celebrating the recent inflation report.

The Consumer Price Index rose 7.7 percent for the year ending in October, indicating that price increases are finally beginning to show signs of improving. This is the lowest annual inflation reading since January and is a slower growth than economists expected.

This report also boosted the stock market Thursday, with Dow futures increasing by more than 800 points. Thursday's report comes after a streak of several higher-than-expected inflation readings.

"Today's report shows that we are making progress on bringing inflation down, without giving up all of the progress we have made on economic growth and job creation," Biden said in a statement. "My economic plan is showing results, and the American people can see that we are facing global economic challenges from a position of strength."

Biden added that today's report shows a "much-needed break" in inflation at the grocery store ahead of the holiday season.

While Biden is celebrating this report, he said it will take time to bring inflation down to normal levels, as some "setback" may come along the way.

He promised to continue working to "provide more breathing room" for Americans. With a Republican Congressional majority looming, Biden added that he will oppose to any effort to undo his agenda "or to make inflation worse."

"We are on the right path, and we need to keep moving forward to build an economy from the bottom up and the middle out," he said.

Biden, Harris Say Midterms Shows Democracy is ‘In Tact’

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated Tuesday's midterm elections as a victory for democracy and for the country as a whole.

At a DNC event to thank election workers, Harris said voters sent a message to the world that America's democracy "is in tact."

"An here's the thing, some Democrats won and some Republicans won," she said. "That is what happens when more than 100 million Americans participate and vote in free and fair and open election."

She added that when voters know what they stand for, they know what they fight for, noting Americans showed they care about protecting Social Security and reproductive freedoms.

"Our democracy is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it," she said, adding that no fights harder for it than Biden.

"You did it Joe," she said.

When he took the microphone, Biden thanked everyone for "believing in your country" and "fighting like the devil to make sure that we had a free and fair election."

As the first election since the riot at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6 2021, Biden said there was a lot at stake for American democracy.

"There were a lot of concerns about whether democracy would meet the test. It did," he said.

This comes as several "election deniers" who lost Tuesday have admitted their defeat.

"Tuesday was a good day for America, a good day for democracy and a strong night for Democrats," he said.

He took aim at the press, pollsters and the pundits who warned of a "Red Wave."

"For months and months, all of you heard from the press and the pundits was a Democrats are facing a disaster," Biden said.

"All those polls, God love them. Historic losses. A giant red wave. Folks, that didn't happen," he said.

Biden lauded Democratic victories, noting that candidates across the party all ran on his platform.

"We saw extraordinary results in these midterm elections that no one thought possible," he said. "More independents voted for Democrats than Republicans in this election."

He noted the "historic" turnout of young voters and women who "made their voice heard" to protect reproductive freedoms.

Over 50K Votes Still Uncounted in Clark County

More than 50,000 ballots still need to be counted in Nevada's Clark County, local election officials said Thursday.

As the vote counting process continues, several major election results in Nevada remain uncertain, including the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races. Clark County is the county with the state's largest population, according to 2020 Census estimates, and had an estimated voter turnout of about 46 percent during Tuesday's midterm elections.

Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria told reporters during a midday news briefing that "a little over" 50,000 votes still need to be counted in Clark County. These ballots are in "various stages in the process of validation," which must occur before they can be officially tabulated and added to the state's vote count, he said.

Local election workers are operating under deadlines that require them to continue counting mail-in ballots until Saturday and must allow voters to continue curating ballots until Monday, he said, meaning there is "no way that we can move any faster than we're currently moving."

Gloria also issued a statement in response to former President Donald Trump, who said in a Thursday morning post on Truth Social that Clark County "has a corrupt voting system."

"Obviously he's misinformed two years later about the law and our election processes, which ensure the integrity of elections in Clark County and the state," Gloria said. "We couldn't go any faster now, even if we wanted to."

Biden to Speak With China’s Xi Jinping Next Week

President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia next week.

The White House said the leaders will discuss efforts to maintain and deepen lines of communication between the United States and the People's Republic of China (PRC).

They will also talk about how to "responsibly manage competition" and work together on shared interests, including "transnational challenges" and a range of regional and global issues, the White House statement read.

This will be the first time the two leaders will meet in-person since Biden took office in January 2021. The two leaders have, however, spoken on the phone several times.

Biden told reporters Wednesday that he intended to talk with Xi about Washington-Beijing tensions over Taiwan, trade policies and China's relationship with Russia.

"What I want to do with him when we talk is lay out what each of our red lines are and understand what he believes to be in the critical national interests of China, what I know to be the critical interests of the United States," he said. "And determine whether or not they conflict with one another."

Colorado Votes to Provide Free Meals in Schools

The 2022 midterms have presented a lot of down-ballot voting in states across the country, deciding everything from legalizing recreational marijuana to secure state abortion protections.

In Colorado, voters passed a measure to provide a free meal for all public school students.

The measure, called Proposition FF, creates the Healthy School Meals for All Program. This program will provide those meals and help school pay for them by raising $100 million a year from increasing taxes on the state's richest residents.

Those residents making more than $300,000 a year will see a limit in their state tax deductions which increases their taxable income.

The measure passes 55.13 to 44.87 percent, according to the Colorado Secretary of State Office's website.

Hunger Free Colorado Director Ashley Wheeland said this is a "massive victory" for hungry children.

"The Prop FF campaign began and finished as a community-based effort with grassroots and advocacy organizations, non-profits, education service providers and educators sharing their own stories of how school meals for all would help thousands of Colorado children get the food they need to learn," she told the Denver Post.

Newly re-elected Colorado Senator Michael Bennet pushed for providing free meals in schools ahead of the election.

"As families face high prices, it's unacceptable that Congress's inaction will end free school meal programs for many kids across Colorado," he tweeted in June.

Trump Says He Is ‘Not at All Angry’ About Midterms

Former President Donald Trump said he is "not at all angry" about the outcome of the midterm elections in a Thursday morning post on Truth Social.

He addressed his post to people who "are being fed the fake narrative from the corrupt media that I am Angry about the Midterms," saying, "don't believe it."

"I am not at all angry, did a great job (I wasn't the one running!), and am very busy looking into the future," his post said. "Remember, I am a 'Stable Genius,'" he added, quoting a tweet he posted about himself back in 2018.

In other Truth Social posts Thursday morning, Trump took issue with media outlets that have reported on Republican stumbles in major midterm races, including the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race between Democrat John Fetterman and Trump-backed Republican Mehmet Oz. Fetterman is projected to have won the seat, flipping it for Democrats as control over the chamber remains highly competitive between the two parties.

Trump said he "picked so many winners" and chastised Fox News, which he said is "really gone."

He also issued an apology to former first lady Melania Trump and Fox News host Sean Hannity for the "fictional stories" of his reported anger at being encouraged to endorse Oz in the Pennsylvania Senate race.

"First of all Oz is a wonderful guy who really worked hard and was a very good candidate, but he WAS LONG IN THE RACE before I ever Endorsed him, they had NOTHING to do with it, he was not a "denier" (his mistake!), & I was not at all ANGRY," Trump's post said. "Fake News!"

Boebert Gains Slight Lead in Colorado House Race

Republican Representative Lauren Boebert has reportedly taken the lead in the tight House race in Colorado.

After trailing Democratic challenger Adam Frisch since polls closed on election night, Boebert has now taken a slim lead.

Boebert is now leading 50.1 to 49.9 percent in Colorado's 3rd District, according to the Colorado Secretary of State's office. The incumbent Republicans is only leading by only 386 votes. As of Wednesday night, Boebert was trailing by 64 votes.

FL Extends Ballot Cure Deadline Amid Tropical Storm

Voters in Florida have been given more time to correct issues with their ballots as Tropical Storm Nicole makes landfall Thursday.

Florida residents in 45 counties will now have until 5 p.m. on Nov. 12 to cure their mail-in and provisional ballots, according to Secretary of State Cord Byrd.

This comes as newly re-elected Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for those 45 counties in Florida Nov. 7-9 in anticipation of dangerous storm surge, rain fall, flooding and wind.

The deadline to fix issues with ballots was 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. But the election supervisors in the affected counties reported to the Florida Secretary of State that they anticipate "continuing challenges and hardships" due to Tropical Storm Nicole and request accommodations.

Additionally, Byrd also extended the deadline for counties to submit the first set of unofficial returns to the State Department until noon on Nov 14.

Those affected counties include:

Alachua, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Jefferson, Lake, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Taylor, Volusia and Wakulla.

Kari Lake Trails by Less Than 1% in AZ Gov Race

Republican Kari Lake is trailing about 0.6 percent behind Democrat Katie Hobbs in Arizona's gubernatorial race, according to the state's latest vote tally.

Arizona is one of a handful of states in which the outcome of the gubernatorial race remains unclear Thursday morning as ballot counting continues. Arizona's Senate race is also still undecided.

According to early election results posted on the Arizona secretary of state's website, Hobbs has 50.3 percent of the ballots counted thus far but is leading by only about 13,067 votes. Lake has 49.7 percent of the votes that have been counted.

The state's vote tabulation shows 1,918,628 ballots were counted as of 7:14 p.m. local time Wednesday, when the tally was last updated. State election data shows there are thousands of early and provisional ballots that still need to be processed, and thousands more that are ready to be tabulated. An estimated 619,012 ballots were still uncounted as of Wednesday night.

During a Wednesday night appearance on "Tucker Carlson Tonight," Lake said the results are "going in our direction" and predicted thousands of votes that haven't yet been tabulated in Maricopa County will "swing very heavily our way."

Lake told Carlson she plans to begin making changes to Arizona's election system if she becomes governor, adding that people in Arizona "are tired of shoddy elections that are run by imbeciles."

Laxalt Takes Slim Lead in Nevada Senate Race

The Nevada Senate race remain close two days after Election Day, with tens of thousands of ballots still being counted.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto is trailing Republican challenger Adam Laxalt by only a few percentage points.

The latest numbers show Laxalt is leading Masto 49.4% to 47.6%, according to the Nevada Secretary of State's office. Laxalt is ahead by 15,812 votes with about 84 percent of precincts reporting.

View this post on X

Both candidates have seemingly claim early victory in this race.

Laxalt said Wednesday night's count went "exactly as we anticipated."

"We added 3K from the rurals and more are coming," he tweeted Thursday morning.

While Cortez-Masto got a boost from Clark County mail-in ballots, Laxalt said "we expect the remaining mail universe to fall well below the percentage she needs to catch us."

On Wednesday night, he said Masto did not have a chance to win Clark County, even with 84,000 votes left to count.

"Cortez Masto could win 63% of them and she would still lose," he tweeted.

Masto's team, however, is also confident in their performance.

Communications Director Josh Marcus-Blank celebrated Masto's mail-in ballot gains in Clark County that cut into Laxalt's slim lead Wednesday.

Early Thursday morning, Marcus-Blank said Masto took the lead in Washoe County, where Reno is located, as more Democrat-leaning mail-in votes are counted in Clark County.

"As we said, we're on track to win this," he said in a tweet.

A Washoe County official told CNN Thursday morning that they have about 20,000 votes still to count.

Advisers Encourage Trump to Delay 2024 Announcement

Former President Donald Trump is being encouraged by some of his former advisers to hold off on announcing a 2024 run for president in the wake of the midterm election results.

Trump said earlier this week that he will have a "very big announcement" to share on November 15. He was previously encouraged to delay a presidential campaign announcement until after the November 8 midterms, but control of Congress remains uncertain two days after Election Day as officials continue counting ballots in several key races.

In Georgia, the U.S. Senate race will be going to a runoff election on December 6, with incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock facing Republican challenger and Trump-backed candidate Herschel Walker. It is possible that control over the Senate will be determined by the outcome of that runoff election.

Jason Miller, a former adviser to Trump, told the Associated Press that he will be "advising him that he move his announcement until after the Georgia runoff," adding the state "needs to be the focus of every Republican in the country right now."

Kayleigh McEnany, a former White House press secretary during Trump's administration, also said on Fox News that Trump "needs to put it on pause," according to the AP. McEnany said Trump's campaign has "got to make strategic calculations" on whether to campaign in Georgia ahead of the runoff election but suggested Trump's potential competitor for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, "should be welcomed to the state" following his re-election Tuesday night.

It was unclear Thursday morning whether Trump would postpone plans to announce another presidential run. When asked Wednesday by Fox News Digital whether the outcome of the midterms would change his campaigning timeline, Trump said, "Why would anything change?"

Rep. Lauren Boebert Trails by 64 Votes in Colorado

The make up of the U.S. House and Senate rest on a few races in key states.

In Colorado, Republican Representative Lauren Boebert is facing an unexpected defeat.

Boebert is virtually tied with Democratic challenger Adam Frisch as votes are still being counted. Going into Thursday, Frisch is leading Boebert by only 64 votes, 156,746 to 156,682, with 99 percent of the votes counted. The race is still too close for networks to call.

View this post on X

The incumbent Republican expected an easy re-election, but after polls closed Tuesday, she has been playing catch-up to her challenger. This is one of many tight House races that disproved the GOP's "Red Wave" prediction.

On Thursday morning, Boebert shared a popular meme, depicting a cartoon figure poking at a graphic showing her race against Frisch, with the caption "C'mon do something."

View this post on X

Frisch, a self-described moderate, said the he is not surprised by the close contest.

"I spent 10 months trying to convince donors and journalists and political strategists everywhere that there was a path forward," he told The Guardian. "I have this calm belief that that 40 percent of the Republican Party wants their party back."

In Pueblo County, CO, thousands of ballots still need to be counted. This includes 1,8000 in-person votes and 5,200 mail-in ballots, according to Pueblo Chieftain reporter Anna Lynn Winfrey.

Election judges arrived at the voting tabulation office at 9 a.m. local time before the next round of counting can begin.

About 400K Votes to Count in Maricopa County, AZ

Votes are still being counted in key states that could determine the makeup of Congress, including Arizona.

Hundreds of thousands of ballots still need to be counted in the Grand Canyon State, where the Senate and gubernatorial race remain close.

On Election Day, 1.3 million ballots were cast and 290,000 early ballots were dropped off in Maricopa County alone.

Those early ballots cannot be immediately counted, they must have signatures verified and must be processed by a bipartisan board before they can be counted, former Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell told KSAZ-TV.

Early ballot drop of has increased this election cycle, as workers were counting ballots from the weekend before Election Day, Purcell said.

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said 100,000 more "late earlies" were dropped off Tuesday than in the 2020 election, the highest number of early ballots turned in on Election Day in the county's history.

View this post on X

This also comes after Maricopa County, the most populous county in Arizona, experienced issues with voting machines on Election Day.

Printer issues caused some ballots to not be read at polling stations Tuesday. County Supervisor Bill Gates said this impacted less than seven percent of voters, about 17,000 ballots.

Gates said in a statement that the county had back up plans in place and assured residents that "all ballots will be counted securely and accurately."

View this post on X

As of Thursday, there are still 400,000 to 410,000 ballots left to be counted in Maricopa County, Gates told CNN.

He said he could not predict which votes would be counted first out of the remaining votes to be counted. But Gates added that the ballots received earlier would likely be counted first.

"We can't really zero in on that with specificity, but they would tend to be those we received earlier first, and then as we move on we're getting more into those Election Day mail-in ballots that we received on Election Day," he said

Senate Democrats to Spend $7 Million in GA Runoff

Senate Democrats are spending millions in next month's Georgia Senate runoff race between incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker.

The key race appears poised to determine control of the Senate, as Senate races in Nevada and Arizona are yet to be called.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is spending $7 million on field organizing to support incumbent Warnock. Details of this plan were first reported in POLITICO.

This investment will fund direct voter contact programs across the state, including door-to-door canvassing, the DSCC said in a statement.

"We know talking directly to voters through a strong, well-funded ground-game is critical to winning in Georgia, and we're wasting no time in kick-starting these programs in the runoff," DSCC Chair Senator Gary Peters said in a statement.

Peters said the DSCC is "proud" to partner with Warnock to "build off their strong field programs" and" launch an unprecedented organizing effort" in the runoff to ensure every voter needed is reached to secure a Democratic victory on Dec. 6.

GOP Gains Momentum As Biden Says Dems Had ‘Strong Night’

The Republican Party is projected to have flipped more congressional races as control over Congress remains undecided, according to projections announced throughout the day on Wednesday by major news networks.

Control over both chambers of Congress was still uncertain as of 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, more than a full day after polls began to close on election night. Republicans are projected to have won 49 Senate races, and Democrats are projected to have won 48. Georgia's Senate race will go to a runoff election on December 6, likely leaving control over the Senate undetermined for another month.

In the House, networks projected that Republicans flipped at least 15 seats by Wednesday night, while Democrats flipped at least four. Republicans need at least 218 seats in order to regain control of the House and are currently projected to have secured at least 207 seats. Democrats are projected to have won 187 seats so far.

Despite Republican gains announced on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said the midterm elections did not deliver the "red wave" predicted by many political and media experts. Though Biden acknowledged that some members of his party lost seats, he said Democrats overall "had a strong night."

"It was a good day, I think, for democracy," Biden said.

Republicans Flip 3 More NY House Seats, Networks Project

Republican candidates flipped three more congressional seats in New York on Wednesday, earning the party a three-seat gain in the House of Representatives as control of Congress remains undecided.

Republicans need a total of 218 House seats to win the majority back from Democrats. As of Wednesday evening, major news networks had called 207 House races for Republicans—including the latest three in New York—and 187 for Democrats.

The Associated Press called the three New York congressional races midday Wednesday, and CNN projected Republicans would win the three seats Wednesday evening.

Michael Lawler is projected to have won his campaign in New York's 17th District, Anthony D'Esposito is projected to have won his campaign in New York's 4th District, and Marcus Molinaro is projected to have won in New York's 19th District. All three districts were most recently held by Democrats.

Politico reported earlier Wednesday that Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, who currently represents the state's 17th District, called Lawler to concede the race.

In his race to represent New York's 4th District, D'Esposito defeated Democrat Laura Gillen. Incumbent Rep. Kathleen Rice did not seek re-election.

Molinaro is projected to have defeated Democrat Josh Riley in the state's 19th District election.

Trump Suggests He Has More Voter Support in FL Than DeSantis

Former President Donald Trump suggested in a Wednesday afternoon post on Truth Social that he has more support among Florida voters than Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump contrasted the number of votes that were cast for DeSantis during the midterm elections on Tuesday with the number of votes he received from Florida voters as a presidential candidate during the 2020 presidential election.

Tuesday's preliminary election results suggest DeSantis won his bid for a second term in office with more than 4.6 million votes, giving him a more than 19 percent lead over the number of votes cast for his Democratic challenger. In contrast, Trump received more than 5.6 million votes in Florida in 2020, or about 3.3 percent more than the total number of votes cast for then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Trump's Truth Social post said, "Now that the Election in Florida is over, and everything went quite well, shouldn't it be said that in 2020, I got 1.1 Million more votes in Florida than Ron D got this year, 5.7 Million to 4.6 Million? Just asking?"

Neither Trump nor DeSantis have announced plans to run for president in 2024, but many political experts believe both politicians are considering a run for the White House. Trump announced earlier this week that he plans to make a "very big announcement" on November 15.

While polling has indicated Trump would be Republican voters' top choice for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, DeSantis often polls as their second choice. Trump has targeted DeSantis in recent days, referring to him as "Ron DeSanctimonious" while discussing polling numbers during a November 5 rally and telling reporters while traveling earlier this week that he thinks it would be "a mistake" for DeSantis to run for president.

Biden Predicts ‘Fun’ Watching Trump, DeSantis Compete in 2024

President Joe Biden predicted it would be "fun" to watch former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis battle for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 if both politicians choose to run.

During a Wednesday afternoon press conference about the midterm election results, Biden said he intends to run for re-election in 2024 but doesn't plan to make his official decision until early 2023.

A reporter asked Biden whether his decision to run for re-election will be impacted by the two in three Americans who told exit pollsters that they don't think he should seek a second term.

"It doesn't," he said. He was then asked what his response to those two-thirds of American voters would be and responded, "Watch me."

The reporter then asked Biden whether he thought Trump or DeSantis would be the "tougher competitor" to run against in 2024.

"It'll be fun watching them take on each other," Biden said.

Neither Trump nor DeSantis have announced plans to run in 2024, though both have performed well in recent polling of possible GOP candidates. Trump has often led DeSantis in these polls and said earlier this week that he plans to make a "very big announcement" on November 15.

DeSantis just won his second term as governor, defeating Democratic challenger Charlie Crist in the statewide election on Tuesday.

Biden Plans to Do ‘Nothing’ Differently in Next 2 Years

President Joe Biden told reporters on Wednesday that he plans to do "nothing" differently over the next two years despite the frustration voters voiced with the country's direction ahead of the midterm elections.

He then said he doesn't plan to make any "fundamental" changes to his administration's policy approach because voters are "just finding out what we're doing."

Biden answered questions from reporters following remarks he delivered at the White House Wednesday afternoon about the election results. One reporter asked Biden if he is planning any significant changes to his policy approach in light of voter frustration and his deliberations about whether to run for re-election in 2024.

"The more they know about what we're doing, the more support there is," Biden said. He added that "major" pieces of legislation that have passed since he took office in early 2021 take "time to be recognized," including infrastructure investments and changes to prescription drug pricing.

"There's a lot of things that are just starting to kick in, and the same way with what we've done in terms of the environmental stuff," he said. "It takes time to get it moving."

Biden said he has been working toward his 2020 presidential campaign goals of restoring decency, building the country from the ground up and uniting the American public. "So I'm not going to change anything in any fundamental way," he said.

Biden Intends to Announce 2024 Bid Early Next Year

President Biden said he intends to run for president again in 2024.

Our intention is to run again, that's been our intention, regardless of what the outcome of this election was."

He said the fact that Democrats outperformed expectations gave him a "sigh of relief" that Republicans are not taking over the government.

"My intension is that I announce," he said.

Biden said he is a great respecter of fate and that his decision will come after a discussion with his family.

He added that he is in "no rush" to make that decision and wants some time away with his wife over the holidays.

"My guess is early next year we make that judgement," Biden said.

Later, another reporter asked whether the fact that "two-thirds" of Americans say that they don't think he should run for re-election factors into his decision.

"It doesn't," Biden replied, adding that his message to those Americans is "watch me."

Biden Willing to Compromise with Republicans

President Joe Biden said he is committed to "working across the aisle" if Republicans gain a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

While the House has not been called, most projections point to a Republican flip.

"Regardless of what the final tally of these elections show -- and there's still some counting going on -- I'm prepared to work with my Republican colleagues," Biden said, adding that the American people hope Republicans work with him as well.

After the president returns from the G20 summit, he promised to meet with leaders of both parties on how to address economic and national security concerns into the next Congress.

View this post on X

While Biden said he is "open to any good ideas," he made it clear he will not support any Republican plan that worsens inflation, raises the price of prescription drugs or reversed strides made to combat climate change.

"There are not compromisable issues for me," he said.

Biden said he will not allow for tax cuts for the wealthy or major corporations and instead push for tax cuts for the working and middle class.

He also promised to veto any national abortion ban and will oppose an cuts or fundamental changes to Social Security and Medicare.

"That's not on the table," he said. "I will not do that."

Biden said he will compromise "where it makes sense" on other issues and "put the needs of the American people first."

"The American people made it clear. They don't want every day going forward to be a constant political battle," Biden said. "The future of America is too promising to be trapped in an endless political warfare."

Biden closed by reiterating his optimism in America's future.

"It's never been a good bet to bet against America," he said. "Nothing is beyond our capacity if we work together."

"The voters were clear that they want to preserve democracy, protect the right to choose, reduce inflation and keep their communities safe," Biden said.

After reading through his administration's top achievements in his first two years in office, Biden said this election showed the American people support his agenda and his economic plan.

Biden especially thanked young people who turned out to vote.

"I especially want to thank the young people of this nation who voted [in] historic numbers again, just as they did two years ago," he said.

"They voted to continue addressing the climate crisis, gun violence, their personal rights and freedoms, and the student debt relief," Biden added.

Midterms Results Will Not Change ‘Bad’ U.S. Relations, Kremlin Says

The results of the midterms will not change the "bad" relations between the U.S. and Russia, the Kremlin has said.

Russian state-run media agency RIA Novosti quoted Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov telling reporters on Wednesday: "These elections are important, but it's not necessary to exaggerate their importance in the short and medium-term for our relations."

"These elections cannot change anything essential. Relations still are, and will remain, bad."

Russia has been accused of meddling in the midterms to try and engineer a Republican success, so that Democratic President Joe Biden faces more challenges in passing military aid packages to Ukraine.

Peskov said that Moscow was too used to accusations about election meddling, it was not paying attention to any new allegations.

Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the founder of the Wagner mercenary group that has been fighting in Ukraine, even admitted on Monday he had interfered in the U.S. elections and would continue doing so in the future.

MTG Says It’s ‘Time for Republicans to Step Up’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia told Steve Bannon on Wednesday that the time has come for her fellow Republicans to "step up" if the party regains control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Greene secured her second term in office representing Georgia's 14th Congressional district in Tuesday's midterm elections. She appeared on Bannon's "War Room" show Wednesday to share her reaction to the midterms and explain what direction she wants the House to take over the next two years.

If the GOP gains control of the chamber, Greene said it "doesn't matter" whether the party has a small or large majority. The job of House Republicans will be "to produce legislation, to produce votes, produce a budget, to do investigations, oversight and hold people accountable in such a way that we show the American people that we are the party that they can trust to run this country and save our country," Greene told Bannon. "That is what Republicans have to do."

Greene said her party has to show it is "willing to fight" and said Democrats have already "shown us exactly who they are." She then made several allegations about Democrats, saying they represent the "party of communism," of closing American businesses and of requiring children to "stay home from school," among other things.

"Time for Republicans to step up, show the country who we are and the solutions that we bring, the problems that we can solve, and the we can lead this country for every single American—not by how they vote, not by their skin color and their identity, but for every single American," Greene said.

"That's our job over the next two years, Steve, and I am going to work as hard as I can to make that happen."

President Joe Biden will soon deliver his first remarks following the 2022 midterm elections.

Biden is holding a news conference and will take questions from reporters, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET.

Kevin McCarthy Launches Bid for House Speaker

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has launched his bid for Speaker of the House one day after the midterm elections.

In a letter for colleagues, McCarthy said he can "confidently report" that Republicans will flip the U.S. House of Representatives from Democratic control.

Republicans look poised to flip the majority but the House has not been called yet. He said the "real work begins" now for GOP lawmakers to use their majority in the House wisely.

"We have ended one-party Democrat rule in Washington by effectively prosecuting the case against their failed policies while detailing our plan for a new direction with the Commitment to America," McCarthy wrote. "Even so, I trust you know that earning the majority is only the beginning. Now, we will be measured by what we do with our majority."

After winning re-election in California, McCarthy is now asking fellow House Republicans to support him as the leader of the chamber.

"I am running to serve as Speaker of the People's House and humbly ask for your support," he said.

He promises to be a "listener" as much as a speaker and "build consensus from the bottom-up rather than commanding the agenda from the top-down."

McCarthy also pledged to immediately reopen the Capitol and end the Democrat proxy voting and remote work policies, make Committee in charge of drafting and marking up bills and "devote the resources necessary for this House to go toe-to-toe with the Executive branch."

The Speaker of the House is elected at the beginning of a new Congress. They are nominated by a member of the House and must win a majority of the vote from all House members.

Vote Counting Will Take Days in Clark County, NV

The process of counting votes will likely continue for days in Nevada's Clark County, Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said during a Wednesday news briefing.

Most notably, Gloria said a "considerable" amount of ballots dropped off in boxes on Tuesday have still not been counted. He did not elaborate further on a potential number.

Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, is critical in the state's key U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races. The Senate race between incumbent Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and Republican challenger Adam Laxalt is close, but Laxalt has a slight lead as of Wednesday afternoon. The gubernatorial race between incumbent Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak and Republican challenger Joe Lombardo is also close, but Lombardo is ahead.

Gloria said that 14,718 mail ballots will be counted today and recorded later tonight. Some 12,700 mail ballots were also picked up by USPS today. Another 5,000 provisional ballots also need to be processed.

When asked what date the county hopes to have unofficial results, Gloria did not provide specifics, saying there are deadlines that must be met and the process will take days.

Trump Says DeSantis 2024 Run Would Be ‘a Mistake’

Former President Donald Trump said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would be "making a mistake" if he decided to run for president in the next election cycle.

Trump spoke with reporters about DeSantis' rumored plans to run for president while traveling home from a rally in Ohio earlier this week. Trump reportedly referred to DeSantis as "our competitor" and said, "I think if he runs he could hurt himself very badly," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Trump then said running for the White House would be "a mistake" for DeSantis and added, "I think the base would not like it," the paper reported.

Trump has not announced plans to run for president again but is widely expected to do so soon. Earlier this week, he told supporters that he will share a "very big announcement" on November 15.

Recent polling has indicated that, if DeSantis chooses to run in 2024, he would be Republican voters' top choice for the job behind Trump. DeSantis has not announced plans to run for president. He secured his second term as Florida's governor during Tuesday's midterms, defeating Democratic challenger Charlie Crist.

Trump Claims Election a Personal Victory

Former President Donald Trump claimed the midterm election a personal victory, even as he admits last night's outcome was "disappointing."

"While in certain ways yesterday's election was somewhat disappointing, from my personal standpoint it was a very big victory," he wrote in a Truth Social post.

The Republican had boasted his over 300 endorsements on the GOP ticket since the midterm primaries.

As of Wednesday, Trump said he had 219 wins and 16 losses in the general elections across the country.

"Who has ever done better than that?" he asked.

Many Republican pundits has blames Trump for the GOP's worse-than-expected performance and the lack of a "red wave."

Zeldin Concedes to Hochul in NY Governor Race

Republican Lee Zeldin conceded New York's gubernatorial race to Democrat Kathy Hochul Wednesday afternoon.

The Republican, who currently represents New York's 1st Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, posted a statement congratulating Hochul on Twitter.

Zeldin described the gubernatorial race as "a once in a generation campaign" that he said ended with "a very close margin in the bluest of blue states." He credited the tight race to the work of campaign volunteers and support from "Republicans, Democrats and Independents" whom he said "united as New Yorkers."

"Those controlling Albany should take note. New Yorkers of all walks of life are sick of the attacks on their wallets, their safety, their freedoms and the quality of their kids' education and are hitting their breaking point, as proven by these results," Zeldin's statement said.

"As they take office in January, Governor Kathy Hochul and those controlling Albany must address the grave concerns voiced by the voters. While this campaign has come to a close, the rescue mission to Save Our State continues."

View this post on X

Hochul first took office in August 2021 following the resignation of former Governor Andrew Cuomo. This is the first time she has been elected to a full term as New York's governor.

Voter surveys conducted in the weeks ahead of the midterm elections suggested that while Hochul was polling ahead of Zeldin, her lead in the race narrowed as Election Day drew closer. Zeldin's campaign messaging focused largely on crime in New York and suggested crime rates would worsen if Hochul were to remain in office.

Major news networks projected Hochul would win the race late Tuesday night.

Warnock, Walker Senate Race Moves to Runoff

Georgia will officially have a runoff election to decide the tight Senate race between incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the runoff election will be held on Dec. 6. This comes as neither candidate won a majority (50 percent + 1) of votes in the race. He said his office has already started working the ballots for the runoff.

"Ballots are being built as we speak, and counties are making preparations," he said during a press conference.

He said the governor's race has been decided, as Democrat Stacey Abrams has conceded the race to incumbent Republican Brian Kemp.

"This will be a very heavy lift for our counties because it's a four week run off period, but I have confidence, they will take all the measures required to rise to the task," Raffensperger said.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Warnock received 49.42 percent of the vote and Walker received 48.52 percent of the vote. The Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver received 2.1 percent of votes.

Washoe County, NV to Count 20k Ballots

Nevada's Washoe County is now processing 20,000 ballots that were either mailed-in or put in drop boxes on Monday or Tuesday.

County Communications Manager Bethany Drysdale said "everything is going smoothly this morning" but cannot guarantee officials will finish counting this set of ballots tonight.

"Data dump will probably be tonight," she told the Reno Gazette Journal. "But we're not guaranteeing it. It could be tonight or tomorrow morning."

After this set of votes, county officials will then move on to mail-in ballots received Wednesday. Drysdale told CNN she has "no idea" how many ballots arrived today.

Washoe County is in northern Nevada and includes the city of Reno.

The first batch of results posted early Wednesday morning all came from early voting, including mostly mail-in ballots from Sunday.

So far, the county results show Republican Adam Laxalt is leading the close Nevada Senate race.

McConnell Says ‘I Don’t Deal in Feelings’ When Asked about Midterms

Reporters on Wednesday asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for his reaction to the midterm election results thus far.

"I don't deal in feelings," the Kentucky senator said in response, according to reporters with ABC News and NBC News.

McConnell said the vote count needs to be completed, "and then we'll figure out where we are."

McConnell's reaction to early election results follows comments he made over the summer about the importance of "candidate quality" in U.S. Senate races, at which time he also predicted that the balance of power in the Senate following the midterms would be "extremely close," NBC News reported.

McConnell currently serves as the minority leader in the Senate but previously held the majority leader position when Republicans had control of the chamber between 2015 and early 2021. New York Senator Chuck Schumer took over as majority leader following the 2020 elections, but McConnell could replace Schumer if his party regains control of the Senate and backs him for the job.

Exit Polls Show Over Half of Young Voters Backed Democrats

More than half of voters ages 18 to 44 supported Democratic candidates this election cycle, according to CNN exit polls.

Pollsters found support for Democrats was even higher among young voters ages 18 to 29, with 63 percent saying they voted for Democrats in Congressional races, compared with 35 percent who said they voted for Republican candidates.

Olivia Juliana, the director of politics and government affairs at Gen Z for Change, said young voters helped the country avoid the "red wave" that was predicted for this year's midterms.

"The polling shows that OUR generation voted for Democrats more than any other age group," Juliana tweeted. "WE are the reason Democracy will stand."

Four States Vote to Ban Slavery in Prisons

Four states are set to amend their constitutions in a way that will ban slavery or involuntary servitude for people who are serving time behind bars after voters approved the proposals during Tuesday's midterm elections.

Voters in Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee and Vermont cast their ballots in favor of approving the bans, according to the Associated Press. Voters in Louisiana, a fifth state that had forced prison labor on the ballot this election cycle, did not vote in favor of approving the proposed ban.

Louisiana's proposal, known as Amendment 7, asked voters: "Do you support an amendment to prohibit the use of involuntary servitude as it applies to otherwise lawful administration of criminal justice?"

The state's preliminary election results showed 60.85 percent of voters rejected the amendment.

According to AP, the states that approved the prison labor bans will open facilities up to legal battles if people serving time protest the circumstances under which they are asked to work.

Trump Teases ‘Huge’ Announcement Next Week

Former President Donald Trump teases a "huge" announcement next week.

In a fundraising email sent out Wednesday, Trump said he has an "exciting announcement" that he "can't wait to share" on Nov. 15, one week after Election Day.

Some believe this will be when Trump officially announces his 2024 presidential bid, after hinting at launching his run for weeks.

"This announcement will perhaps be the most important speech given in the history of the United States of America," Trump's email said.

View this post on X

This comes as many Republicans blame Trump for the absence of a major "Red Wave" in the midterm elections.

Trump's former director of strategic communications and assistant Alyssa Farah Griffin called her former boss "the single loser of the night last night."

On The View Wednesday morning, she blasted the way Trump "dragged down the Republican candidates in a huge way."

View this post on X

Griffin said Trump endorsed candidates based on their loyalty to him, not on their qualifications.

She added Republicans are "really thinking hard" about who they are as a party and "why this man is our leader."

In a Truth Social post Tuesday night, Trump boasted his endorsement record.

"174 wins and 9 losses, A GREAT EVENING, and the Fake News Media, together with their partner in crime, the Democrats, are doing everything possible to play it down," he wrote. "Amazing job by some really fantastic candidates!"

Trump previously said he would take credit for GOP victories if his endorsements win.

"I think if they win, I should get all the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all," he said in an interview with NewsNation Tuesday.

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said people close to Trump say the former president is "furious" Wednesday morning about his losing endorsements, especially Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania.

While Trump was expected to announce his 2024 run on or right after Election Night, Haberman said his allies are pushing him to wait a week.

Maryland, Missouri Legalize Recreational Marijuana Use

Voters have approved recreational marijuana use in two states, Maryland and Missouri.

Missouri's measure legalized recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older and expunges the records of past arrests and convictions for nonviolent marijuana offenses, with the exception of selling to minors or driving under the influence.

Maryland will also make changes to its criminal law and expunge past marijuana possession convictions.

In Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota, voters rejected similar measures.

North Dakota's measure would have legalized the use of marijuana at home for people 21 and older. It would also allow for the possession and cultivation of restricted amounts of cannabis.

In 2020, South Dakota voted to legal marijuana possession, but the state Supreme Court struck down the law because the proposal was coupled with medical marijuana and hemp.

This comes after President Joe Biden announced last month that he would pardon thousands of Americans convicted of possession of marijuana under federal law.

A total of 21 states across the country have now legalized weed for recreational use.

Kentucky Voters Reject Anti-Abortion Measure

Voters in reliably red Kentucky rejected a ballot measure aimed at denying any state constitutional protections for abortion, AP reports.

The result bucked the state's Republican-led Legislature, which had imposed a near-total ban on the procedure and put the proposed state constitutional amendment on the ballot. It also mirrored what happened in another red state, Kansas, where voters in August rejected changing that state's constitution to let lawmakers tighten restrictions or ban abortions.

As we've been hearing, voters in battleground Michigan enshrined abortion rights in their state's constitution—joining Democratic California and Vermont.

The Tuesday ballot measures came months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion it guaranteed to women nationwide. The decision in June has led to near-total bans in a dozen states.

White House ‘Giddy’ at Midterms: Psaki

The Biden administration is "giddy and gleeful" about this year's midterm results, the president's former press secretary, Jen Psaki, has said.

Speaking on MSNBC early on Wednesday morning, Psaki said: "I've been in touch with the White House. They are giddy and gleeful, as they should be, about where things are sitting right now."

Psaki joined MSNBC as a contributor after she stepped down from her White House role in May.

Many observers in Washington predicted Republicans to take more seats than they have, but Democrats have fended off the GOP in several key battlegrounds, including in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Republican Mace: Impeaching Biden ‘Not Something I Support’

Some Republicans have spoken of impeaching President Joe Biden should the GOP win back control of the U.S. House.

Asked about such talk just now, Republican Nancy Mace said the move is "not something I support at this juncture without having investigation."

"Impeachment has been weaponized over the years; we've seen that in the last five years or so," The representative from South Carolina told CNN, in an apparent reference to Donald Trump's impeachments.

Mace defeated Democrat Annie Andrews in this general election, after she defeated a Trump-endorsed challenger in her primary.

Mace, who has backed Kevin McCarthy to continue to lead House Republicans, said she was "cautiously optimistic" that the GOP will have majority.

Sara Palin’s Alaska House Race Latest

Palin's big political comeback looks tight...

Sarah Palin once again trails Mary Peltola, the Democrat who upset the Republican in an August special election to temporarily fill Alaska's House seat.

With about 75 percent of votes counted, Peltola has a 47.1 percent share. The GOP vote is split: Former Alaska Governor Palin has 26.6 percent, while Nick Begich has 24.3 percent.

Alaska's new ranked choice voting systems means that the result is not final until one candidate gets more than half of the votes. If the leading candidate doesn't pass this threshold, the winner is determined by second- and third- choice votes. In this case, the counting would take place on November 23.

Sara Palin speaks in Anchorage

...

Peltola won the special election in August against Palin and Begich that was brought after Rep. Don Young died before he finished his term.

Palin is looking to stage a comeback 13 years after resigning as governor to join the McCain–Palin ticket which lost the 2008 presidential election.

Katie Hobbs, Kari Lake Tied in Arizona Governor Race

Katie Hobbs and Kari Lake

...

Arizona's governor race remains tight, but too early to call.

With 62 percent of votes counted so far, Democrat Katie Hobbs currently has 50.9 percent, while Republican Kari Lake has 49.1 percent.

Mail ballots returned Tuesday or shortly before were not yet reported and will be counted in the coming days.

Trouble with vote-tabulation machines at about one in four polling places in Maricopa County, Arizona's most populous, generated criticism on social media, but officials said every vote would be counted.

Lake, a former TV news anchor, has repeatedly during her campaign cast doubt on the fairness of elections.

In a speech on Tuesday night, Republican Lake told supporters: 'We had a big day today and don't let those cheaters and crooks think anything different; don't let them put doubt in you.

'We have a movement and we know it,' she added.

Hobbs told her supporters on Tuesday night: "We know my opponent and her allies have been sowing doubt and confusion throughout this campaign, and it's unacceptable that they were spreading misinformation today while people were exercising their right to vote."

Arizona was a longtime Republican stronghold that turned toward Democrats during the Trump era.

China’s State Media Predicts Post-Midterms ‘Chaos’

Newsweek's contributing editor for Asia, John Feng, looks at China's coverage of these midterms...

The Global Times, the Chinese Communist Party's nationalistic tabloid, has predicted more "partisan strife" in the U.S. after the midterms.

"The U.S. is bracing for further chaos and division, as Republicans are highly likely to trigger an impeachment process against U.S. President Joe Biden if they wrest control of the House back," it said on Wednesday, citing Diao Daming, an associate professor at Renmin University in Beijing.

Washington was likely to "continue to confront and pressure China after a frustration in Congress," it said, to distract from unfavorable midterm results.

GOP majorities in the House and Senate would also make U.S. foreign policy more hawkish toward Beijing, it suggested.

Marjorie Taylor Greene has released a statement following her victory over Democrat challenger Marcus Flowers for Georgia's 14th district.

The Republican congresswoman—who some have speculated will be on Trump's 2024 ticket—said she ran to win and "hold my party accountable."

"I know precisely how these voters felt when they cast their ballot, sick and tired of empty promises, watching the DC swamp sell our country's future out year after year," Greene said early on Wednesday.

"These voters chose Republicans to straighten up our country, drain the swamp and fight for them. Together, we can hold our party accountable and make sure they don't let America's families down."

With more than 95 percent of votes counted, Greene (65.9 percent) led Flowers (34.1).

Republican To Hold Alaska’s U.S. Senate Seat

Murkowski Tshibaka

...

A Republican is expected to hold Alaska's U.S. Senate seat following Tuesday's ranked choice election, the Associated Press reports.

Donald Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka and U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a fellow Republican, lead in early returns.

With 69 percent of votes counted, Tshibaka led (44.8 percent) Murkowski (42.1), ahead of Democrat Pat Chesbro (9.7).

Under ranked voting, ballots are counted in rounds. A candidate can win outright with more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round. "While many races remain too close to call, it is clear that House Democratic Members and candidates are strongly outperforming expectations across the country," House Speaker Pelosi said in a statement early Wednesday morning.

"As states continue to tabulate the final results, every vote must be counted as cast," she added.

Democrat Reps. Abigail Spanberger (Va.), Vicente Gonzalez (Tx.) and Marcy Kaptur (Oh.) fended off fierce Republican challengers.

But Republicans remain favored to win a House majority, but many seats remain in the balance, and a "red wave" many Republicans predicted seems unlikely.

GOP Lawsuit to Extend AZ Polling Hours Denied

An Arizona judge blocked a Republican motion to keep polls in Maricopa County open until 10 p.m.

The RNC and two Republican candidates in the state filed an emergency motion to extend polling location hours after reports that voters were "denied the opportunity to vote" and were not told about their right to vote using a provisional ballot.

View this post on X

But in a hearing that concluded just minutes before polls closed at 7 p.m., the judge said he did not see any evidence of voters who wanted to vote but were unable to do so.

County Recorder Stephen Richer said the county moved to dismiss the motion saying, "we have no statutory or delegated authority over this subject matter."

After the county was dismissed from the lawsuit, he said officials "are not responsible for Election Day or tabulation."

He said his team will work to research all provisional ballots cast Tuesday, in-bound scanning all early ballots dropped off at the voting locations, review signatures of early ballots dropped off Tuesday and will continuing to "cure" any signatures we previously deemed non-matching.

Richer adds that county officials estimate over 150,000 early ballots were dropped off Tuesday. Over 900,000 ballots were received and had signatures verified over the 26-day early voting period.

The first round of unofficial results will be posted at 8 p.m. local time (10 p.m. EST), the county's election department said.
