Mom's Dishwasher Hack Spectacularly Backfires

A mom has taken to TikTok to share her creative hack to ensure her teenage sons help her with the housework, but it didn't exactly go to plan.

In a video posted to the app by Carrie_official.1, who is based in U.K., the mother can be seen putting a £10 ($13.65) note into the tablet section of the dishwasher.

She then tells viewers: "Let's see if one of my teenage sons puts the dishwasher on and changes the tablet."

The mom then captioned the footage of the trick, which was shared to TikTok on August 14, writing: "I wonder results to follow!!

She then added the hashtags: "#CruelSummerConfessions #fypシ #familyfun #teenagers #chores #dishwasher."

The clip, which can be watched here, has so far been viewed a whopping 5.2 million times, and been liked by more than 297,600 people.

Many rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on the encouraging method which, although expensive to try once, might make children more inclined to think about the tablet drawer in the future.

One TikTok user, Myrxn77, wrote: "This makes me wanna do my chores but my mom would never do that."

Another person, Anonymous567, added: "I'm 17 and from now on I'm always loading the dishwasher."

User6446467421416 revealed: "I've put a tenner on the loo roll holder. I'm placing bets."

However later that day Carrie_official.1, who has 142,600 followers on the app, posted a follow-up video, in which she opens up the dishwasher and exclaims "so far so good, looking clean!"

But on further inspection the mother sees the note in the machine, and says: "Oh my god tell me they have not left the £10 in and forgot to put a tablet in."

She captioned the video, which has been viewed 888,600 times: "Lucky we have plastic notes now, so it turns out the eldest threw a tablet in. #fypシ #familyfun #teenagers #dishwasher #chores #MyIdoles."

Although this life hack did not work, TikTok is awash with many tips and tricks to improve your homemaking skills. We love this method for serving pineapple, without having to use a knife.

All you need is to roll, pound and bash it and the segments come away.

There is also a brilliant tip for sharing a creative way to organize your kitchen cupboards using a baking sheet and some tape, as well as a method for stopping younger children from lying.
