'Overwatch' Halloween Terror 2021: Here's How To Get the New Skins

The date for 2021's "Halloween Terror" event in Overwatch has been revealed and, as per the annual traditional, it will be introducing a variety of spooky skins for players to unlock.

For those who are not familiar with Halloween Terror it started in 2016 and has taken place every October since. Each year, Blizzard's first-person shooter gets a horror-themed revamp for the duration of this event, complete with special cosmetic rewards and the return of the "Junkenstien's Revenge" mode.

It is one of the most popular occasions in the entire Overwatch calendar, as fans eagerly look forward to sporting new looks for all their favourite characters. For instance, last year's Halloween Terror event saw Winston metamorphose into a feral werewolf, Sigma cosplaying as the nautical spirit of the Flying Dutchman, and D.Va's mech being turned into a classic haunted house.

Blizzard Entertainment has finally confirmed some details for 2021's Halloween celebration and has even teased a few of the upcoming skins. Here is everything that you need to know.

When Is the Halloween Terror 2021 Event in 'Overwatch'?

According to a post from the official Overwatch Twitter account, this year's Halloween Terror event will kick off on Tuesday, October 12.

It will last until November 2, meaning that you have precisely 3 weeks to participate in the various challenges and to unlock all the limited rewards. This 21-day timeframe is consistent with previous years, which ran for the same duration.

While there is no confirmed start or end time for the event, it is worth noting that, when it comes to Overwatch, these things normally begin at around 1 p.m. ET.

How To Unlock the 'Overwatch' Halloween Terror Skins

As always, there will be several unique skins to unlock during the Halloween Terror event.

Based on early promotional tweets, we know that Roadhog will be getting a Pennywise the Clown style makeover. His signature gasmask has been painted with a rictus grin and his silver hair has been dyed bright red. Meanwhile, the tank hero's stomach tattoo will display the image of a maniacal jester, accompanied by chilling text that reads "Smile".

Elsewhere, Reinhardt will be getting a Draugr skin, modelled after the undead creatures of Norse legend. The costume can be seen in all its haunting glory in the below tweet.

There will presumably be more skins announced in the lead up to the event.

Once Halloween Terror has formally begun, you will be able to unlock the cosmetic rewards by either completing weekly challenges (that are yet to launch), spending credits on limited-time loot boxes, by just playing a requisite number of online matches.

This has been the case in previous years, including the 2020 Halloween Terror event. More specific details about the unlock criteria (including the price of any special loot boxes, the weekly challenge list, and the amount of games you have to play) will be revealed on October 12, but the basic principles will remain the same.

In addition to the new skins, Halloween Terror will also see the return of the Junkenstein's Revenge Player versus Environment (PvE) mode, in which gamers must work as a team to fend off a horde of Zomnic robots.

Overwatch is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
