'Space Jam 2' Cast Features These NBA Players on Court With LeBron James

Warner Bros. released a new trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy on Saturday, the much-anticipated sequel to the 1996 movie starring NBA legend Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes.

The movie will star LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers in the leading role opposite beloved cartoon rabbit Bugs Bunny but it will also feature a host of other NBA stars.

Co-produced by James and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, alongside Maverick Carter and Duncan Henderson, Space Jam will see the classic characters once again face off against rivals on the basketball court.

Also joining the cast will be James' fellow LA Lakers Kyle Kuzma and Anthony Davis but other teams aren't being left out.

The NBA will be amply represented, with the Phoenix Suns' Chris Paul, Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers and Klay Thompson and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors all set to appear.

The WBNA will also be represented, according to Bleacher Report, with the Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks slated for cameos.

Aside from basketball stars, Space Jam: A New Legacy will feature Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle as the villain—an evil computer algorithm named Al-G Rhythm who brings James and Looney Tunes into a virtual world to play a basketball game against the monstrous Goon Squad.

Sonequa Martin-Green, star of CBS' Star Trek: Discovery will star as Kamiyah, James' on-screen wife in what will be her biggest role in a major movie production to date.

Familiar Warner Bros. animated characters will comprise most of the main cast, however. Joining Bugs Bunny will be fan favorites Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, the Tasmanian Devil, Lola Bunny and others.

The trailer, which is available to watch on YouTube, shows that the movie will be a mixture of live action and traditional animation in the style of the 1996 movie that transitions to a computer generated format, giving Bugs and the Looney Tunes a chance to experience life in 3D.

Space Jam: A New Legacy comes 25 years after the original movie made a splash with its successful blending of live action and an animated world, and its references to Jordan's own personal history.

In the 1996 movie, the Looney Tunes must fight for their freedom against a group of cartoon aliens bent on using them as tourist attractions. The toons recruit Jordan from the real world in order to win a crucial basketball game. Space Jam cast a number of 1990s NBA stars in cameo roles, including Charles Barkley, Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.
